BISMARCK, ND – After honoring its seniors for their contributions over the years, The University of Mary softball team split their doubleheader against Upper Iowa University.
The four seniors that were honored were Madelynn Trout, Mariah Sanchez, Kaitlyn Alvarado and Kasidy Chileen.
GAME 1 Upper Iowa University 5 University of Mary 2
UIU got out in front early as the Peacocks scored three runs in the first inning. UIU added another run in the second and fifth inning giving the Peacocks a 5-0 lead.
The Marauders battled back in the bottom of the fifth inning as Mikaela Pelesauma doubled to center field which scored Mariah Sanchez.
PIVOT POINT
The Marauders added their second run after Madelynn Trout walked with the bases loaded bringing home Brooke De Jonge. UMary failed to score after that as the game ended 5-2 in favor of UIU.

STAT OF THE GAME
Kaitlyn Alvarado did a great job of pulling double-duty for the Marauders. She pitched all seven innings and allowed only four earned runs while striking out four batters. Alvarado also went 3-for-4 at the plate.
GAME 2 University of Mary 8 Upper Iowa University 4
The Marauders offense clicked in the bottom of the third inning. Kaitlyn Alvarado got things started as she singled to right field which saw Mariah Sanchez reach home plate. Madelynn Trout then doubled to right-center, scoring Alvarado. Kaylee Kannegiesser gave UMary a 3-0 lead after she hit a single to left field which scored Trout. UIU would add a run themselves in the top of the fourth inning.
UMary responded by scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Mikaela Pelesauma singled to right field which scored Sanchez and Brooke De Jonge. UIU added another run in the top of the fifth inning as the Marauders led 5-2.
UMary offense continued their excellence in the fifth inning. Brooke De Jonge singled down the left-field line bringing home Kasidy Chileen. Pelesauma doubled down to left field which scored Brooke De Jonge and Eryn De Jonge and gave the Marauders an 8-2 lead.
PIVOT POINT
UIU scored one run in the top of the sixth. The Peacocks thought they had added two more runs but they were both called back after UIU was called for runner interference. The Peacocks would add one more run in the seventh inning but failed to score again as UMary won 8-4.

· Kaylee Kannegiesser went 2-for-3 with one RBI
· Eryn De Jonge went 1-for-3 with one run scored
· Brooke De Jonge went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored
· Alissa Alvarado earned her team-high fourth win as she pitched all seven innings allowing three earned runs and struck out one batter

Mikaela Pelesauma went 2-for-4 with a team-leading four RBIs.

The Marauders (7-28, 6-16 Northern Sun) compete in their final home series as they host Winona State University in a doubleheader on Sunday, May 2, starting at 12 pm.
