ABERDEEN, SD – The University of Mary softball team lost two close games as the Marauders lost late leads in both games of their doubleheader at Northern State University.
GAME 1 Northern State University 6 University of Mary 5
NSU (14-8 overall, 5-3 Northern Sun) got on the scoreboard first as the Wolves took a 1-0 lead after the first inning. UMary (2-19, 1-7) responded when Mikaela Pelesauma hit a sac fly to center field, scoring Eryn deJonge. The Wolves then hit the Marauders for three runs in the bottom of the third.
UMary rallied in the fifth inning, starting when Rachael Laetsch put down a sacrifice bunt to score Brooke DeJonge. Kaitlyn Alvarado reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, which brought home Mariah Sanchez. The Marauders took a 5-4 lead after Eryn deJonge singled to center and DeJonge and Alvarado came home to score on a throwing error from the center fielder.
PIVOT POINT
Freshman Elly Smith gave NSU the lead after she hit a single through the left side to bring home two Wolves players. NSU was able to hold on to their 6-5 lead as UMary was unable to score in the seventh inning.

The Marauders grabbed an early lead as Kaylee Kannegiesser singled up the middle to score Madison Wszolek in the top of the first inning. In the second inning, Devyn Ritz added to UMary's lead as she singled up the middle to score Mikaela Pelesauma, growing the Marauders lead to 2-0.
NSU cut the lead in half in the third inning as the Wolves scored one run. The Wolves brought home two runs in the fifth inning to claim a 3-2 lead. The Marauders responded in the top of the sixth inning as Eryn deJonge singled through the left side to score Brooke DeJonge and Kannegiesser, giving the Marauders a 4-3 lead.
PIVOT POINT
NSU regained its lead in the bottom of the sixth as senior Mackenzie Merritt hit a three-run homer to left field for a 6-4 Wolves lead. UMary was unable to rally in the seventh inning as NSU took home the win.

The Marauders host their first home games of the season when they take on St. Cloud State University in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 10 starting at 12 pm. UMary will compete against the University of Minnesota Duluth in a doubleheader on Sunday, April 11, beginning at 1 pm.
