BISMARCK, ND – Kaitlyn Alvarado hit her first home run of the season in the University of Mary softball home opener as the Marauders fell in both of their games to the University of Minnesota Duluth.

UMD (20-6 overall, 10-2 Northern Sun) jumped out to a five-run lead in the first inning and never looked back. The Bulldogs added four more runs in the second inning and two runs in the third inning.
UMary scored its only runs in the game when Kaitlyn Alvarado hit a two-run home run to right-center which brought home Madison Wszolek. UMD scored four more runs in the fifth inning and won the game 15-2.

The Marauders fell behind early as UMD had a 5-0 lead after the first inning. UMary responded with one as Eryn DeJonge grounded into a double play which scored Mariah Sanchez. The Bulldogs scored 12 runs in the second inning and one run in the third inning giving UMD an 18-1 lead.
UMary battled back after Kaylee Kannegiesser doubled down the left-field line with the bases loaded, scoring Madelynn Trout, Kaitlyn Alvarado and Mikaela Pelesauma. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Pelesauma brought home Brooke DeJonge after Pelesauma singled through the left side.

Kaylee Kannegiesser had a season-high three RBIs when she hit her bases-clearing double in the third inning.
NEXT TIME OUT
The Marauders (2-21 overall / 1-9 NSIC) host Wayne State College at the University of Mary Softball Field on April 17 in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm. UMary will then host Augustana on April 18 in a doubleheader beginning at 12 pm.
