BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary softball team completed the sweep over Wayne State College as the Marauders offense shined in both games.
GAME 1 University of Mary 9 Wayne State College 8
WSC (4-22, 1-13) grabbed an early lead after bringing in a run in the top of the second inning. UMary (4-21 overall, 3-9 Northern Sun) responded in the bottom of the fourth as Brooke DeJonge singled to the shortstop to score Madelynn Trout. Mikaela Pelesauma gave the Marauders the lead at 2-1 after she brought home DeJonge after singling to left field. The Wildcats got back in front in the top of the sixth as WSC scored two runs giving them a 3-2 lead.
UMary's offense took off in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mariah Sanchez got the Marauders rolling as the junior hit a triple to left field, scoring DeJonge and Kaylee Kannegiesser. Eryn deJonge then slapped a single to left field, scoring Sanchez. Rachael Laetsch capped off UMary's run as she hit a two-run homer to center field to bring home Kaitlyn Alvarado and give the Marauders a 7-3 lead. WSC would not stay down for long as they erupted for five runs in the top of the seventh to retake the lead at 8-5.
PIVOT POINT
With one out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Kannegiesser hit a game-tying home run to left field. Eryn deJonge then hit the game-winning single to center field, scoring her sister Brooke DeJonge with the deciding run.

- Mariah Sanchez went 2-for-3 with two walks, two RBIs and one run scored
- Kaylee Kannegiesser went 3-for-4 with one HR, one RBI and two runs scored
- Rachael Laetsch went 1-for-3 with one HR, two RBIs and one run scored
- Brooke DeJonge went 1-for-2 with two walks, one RBI and two runs scored
- Alissa Alvarado earned her second win of the season as she pitched seven innings, allowing six earned runs while striking out three batters

GAME 2 University of Mary 10 Wayne State College 5
The Wildcats got the early lead again as they scored one run in the first inning. Back-to-back home runs from Madelynn Trout and Kaylee Kannegiesser gave UMary a 2-1 lead. WSC tied the game back up in the top of the third.
Rachael Laetsch regained the lead for the Marauders as she doubled to left field to score Eryn deJonge. UMary's lead would not last long as the Wildcats scored two runs in the fourth inning.
PIVOT POINT
UMary's offense rallied for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Mikaela Pelesauma got the scoring started after she reached on a fielding error by the shortstop, scoring Kaitlyn Alvarado. Eryn deJonge singled to left field which brought home Mariah Sanchez and Devyn Ritz. Madelynn Trout then drew a walk to score Pelesauma. Kannegiesser doubled to left-center, driving home Laetsch and deJonge. Finishing off the Marauders scoring onslaught was Devyn Ritz as she brought home Trout and gave UMary a 10-4 lead.
WSC would get one run back in the sixth inning but Nicole Eckhardt shut down the Wildcats offense giving the Marauders their fourth win of the season.

The Marauders host Augustana University at the University of Mary Softball Field on Sunday, April 18, in a doubleheader starting at 12 pm.
