BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary softball team completed their second doubleheader sweep of the season over Minnesota State University Moorhead.
GAME 1 University of Mary 5 MSU Moorhead 4
The Marauders jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the second. The scoring started when Kaitlyn Alvarado singled to center field to score Kaylee Kannegiesser. Brooke De Jonge then singled through the left side, bringing home Madelynn Trout. Mariah Sanchez followed up with a single through the left side, scoring Alvarado. UMary's fourth run came when De Jonge scored on a wild pitch.
MSUM responded in the top of the third inning as the Dragons scored three runs making the score 4-3. UMary added on another run after Kannegiesser singled to center field to score Brooke De Jonge. The Dragons came back with a run in the top of the fifth as the Marauders led 5-4.
PIVOT POINT
MSUM had runners on second and third with only one out in the seventh inning. Alissa Alvarado was able to get the next batter to fly out to right field. Then she recorded the third and final out on a ground ball to second, giving Alvarado a complete game and her third win of the season.

Kaylee Kannegiesser went a perfect 3-for-3 as she drove in one run while coming around to score once herself.

UMary fell behind 2-0 after MSUM scored one run in the first and second innings.
PIVOT POINT
Rachael Laetsch gave the Marauders a 3-2 lead after she hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to score Eryn De Jonge and Mikaela Pelesauma. Devyn Ritz added on another run for UMary as she hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing home Madelynn Trout.
Laetsch smashed her second home run of the game to left field which saw Pelesauma come home to score giving the Marauders a 6-2 lead. UMary added two more runs in the sixth inning after Ritz hit a single to right field, scoring Madelynn Trout. Mariah Sanchez followed with a double to left field to score Kaitlin Alvarado.

This is the second time this season Rachael Laetsch has hit a pair of home runs in a game. She leads the Marauders with five.

The Marauders (6-23, 5-11 Northern Sun) head back out on the road as they will take on the University of Sioux Falls in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 24, at 1 pm in Sioux Falls, SD. They then take on Southwest Minnesota State University in a doubleheader on Sunday at 12 pm in Marshall, MN.
