Marauders shut out Mavericks 7-0 to wrap up regular season play

OWATONNA, MN – The University of Mary tennis closed out their regular season in spectacular fashion as they shut out Minnesota State University – Mankato 7-0.

"It was nice to see everyone play well in our last conference game. I am especially happy for our four seniors in how well they played," UMary Head Coach Vida Saliendra said.

The Marauders (8-3 overall / 8-3 NSIC) swept their three doubles matches against the Mavericks (2-14/ 1-10). Tasha Dembo and Yusra Hegy played great in number one doubles, winning 6-1. Kelsey Lajom and Jamie Stoppler were victorious in number two doubles 6-1. Heidi Jacobson and Kali Askvig finished off doubles play by dominating 6-0 in number three doubles to earn one team point for UMary.

Tasha Dembo got back to her winning ways as she defeated Tyanna Washa 6-1, 6-2 in number one singles.

Yusra Hegy was victorious in number two singles as she won 6-1, 6-1 over Dee Dokken.

In number three singles Jamie Stoppler was dominant in her match against Lauren Goth, winning 6-2, 6-0.

Kelsey Lajom won her match 6-1, 6-0 against Kjerstin Hall.

Kali Askvig defeated Abigail Clayton 6-0, 6-3 in number five singles.

Heidi Jacobson completed the Marauders sweep over the Mavericks as she won 6-7, 6-0, 1-0 over Sarah Johansen.

Currently tied for fourth place in the league standings, UMary will next compete in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships starting on April 23 and finishing on April 25 in Sioux Falls, SD.
