MINOT, ND – Despite strong performances from Mariah Sanchez and Kaitlyn Alvarado the University of Mary softball team was swept in their doubleheader at Minot State University. UMary lost game one 6-2 and fell 10-2 in game two on the opening day of Northern Sun competition for the Marauders.
GAME 1 University of Mary 2 Minot State University 6
MSU hit the ground running in the bottom of the first inning, scoring twice to give the Beavers an early lead. MSU added on two more runs in the bottom of the third making the score 4-0. Kaitlyn Alvarado got the Marauders on the board after she hit a two-run double to left field, scoring Mariah Sanchez and Eryn DeJonge to pull UMary within 4-2.
Pivot Point
UMary had a runner on third and first with one out in the top of the sixth inning. Madelyn Trout was narrowly gunned down at home after UMary tried to pull off a double steal. The Marauders were able to get another runner aboard but ended up stranding two to end the inning. MSU added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to finish the game at 6-2 in favor of the Beavers.

GAME 2 University of Mary 2 Minot State University 10
The Marauders got off to a great start as they took lead in the top of the first inning after Rachael Laetsch hit a triple to left field to bring home Kaitlyn Alvarado. MSU responded by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning, giving the Beavers a 3-1 lead. Minot scored another run in the second and three more in the third inning giving MSU a 7-1 lead.
Kaitlyn Alvarado got a run back for UMary in the top of the fifth inning after she hit a single to left field which scored Mariah Sanchez.
Pivot Point
The Beavers ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning after MSU scored three runs making the final score 10-2 in favor of Minot.
