BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary tennis team hosted a successful Senior Day as the Marauders took down the University of Sioux Falls 4-3.
"It was satisfying to see the athletes stayed focused during their doubles and singles matches. This was a great win for us playing against a deep opponent," UMary Head Coach Vida Saliendra said.
The Marauders honored Tasha Dembo, Yusra Hegy, Jamie Stoppler and Kelsey Lajom for the contributions to UMary.
The Marauders (6-3 overall / 6-3 NSIC) won two out of their three doubles matches to the Cougars (4-4 / 4-3). Tasha Dembo and Yusra Hegy fell in number one doubles 6-2. Kelsey Lajom and Jamie Stoppler won their match in number two doubles 6-1. Heidi Jacobson and Kali Askvig finished off doubles play winning 6-1 in number three doubles to earn the lone available doubles point for UMary.
Tasha Dembo won a tremendous match in her final home performance as she defeated Megan Quandt 6-4, 7-5. Dembo was down 1-4 in her second set before she rallied back and earn UMary a team point.
Yusra Hegy was dominant in number two singles as she won 6-1, 6-1 over Lexi Miller.
In number three singles Jamie Stoppler continues the Marauders great run of form as she was victorious over Joelle Thorfinnson 6-1, 6-3.
In number four singles Kelsey Lajom fell to Danielle Thorfinnson 3-6, 6-4, 2-6.
Kali Askvig lost a close match to Rachel Klatt 4-6, 6-4, 0-1 in number five singles.
Heidi Jacobson lost in number six singles to Emily Granson 2-6, 3-6.
The Marauders will travel to Owatonna, MN, for UMary's next contest as they will take on Southwest Minnesota State University on Saturday, April 10, at 4 pm. UMary will play their final game the following day on April 11 against Minnesota State University, Mankato at 8 am.
