BISMARCK, ND – Facing the top program in the Northern Sun, the University of Mary tennis team fell to Augustana University 7-0 in the Marauders next to last home game of the season.
"We lost to a consistent and tough team. My athletes played well but our opponents were better," UMary Head Coach Vida Saliendra said.
The Marauders (5-3 overall / 5-3 NSIC) lost all three of its doubles matches to the Vikings (9-1 / 7-0). Tasha Dembo and Yusra Hegy fell in number one doubles 6-2. Kelsey Lajom and Jamie Stoppler lost in number two doubles 6-2. Heidi Jacobson and Kali Askvig finished off doubles play losing 7-5 in number three doubles.
Tasha Dembo, at the top of the lineup for the Marauders in number one singles action, was defeated by Valeriya Monko 2-6, 2-6.
Yusra Hegy lost her contest 1-6, 2-6 to Florentia Hadjigeorgiou in number two singles.
Jamie Stoppler fell to Laura Arce Vieyra 2-6, 2-6 in number three singles.
In number four singles Kelsey Lajom lost her match to Margarita Chouliara 0-6, 0-6.
Kali Askvig was defeated by Aleksandr Kistanova 0-6, 0-6, in number five singles.
Heidi Jacobson lost in number six singles to Emily Granson 1-6, 1-6.
The Marauders close out their home schedule against the University of Sioux Falls on Sunday, March 28, at 1 pm. The Marauders will honor their four seniors – Tasha Dembo, Yusra Hegy, Kelsey Lajom and Jamie Stoppler – prior to the match.
