MOORHEAD, MN –
Matthew Kreklow posted his third double double of the season and moved into fifth all-time career University of Mary career rebounding leaderboard in the Marauders 82-71 loss at Northern Sun North Division-leading MSU Moorhead. Kreklow scored 21 points and hauled down 12 rebounds in the opening game of UMary's final road trip of the regular season.
Kreklow owns 610 rebounds in his Marauders career. The All-Northern Sun forwarded passed both 3-time All-NSIC forward Eric Erdmann (603 rebounds) and UMary Hall of Famer Rory Entzi (609). Next on the list is 2-time All-NSIC forward and former teammate Bryan Jefferson with 620.
The Marauders career leader in blocked shots, Kreklow moved into 11
th place on the career scoring list with 1,168 points, passing All-American Kurt Schwamp (1,149) and Hall of Famer Rusty Gillette (1,167).
Kreklow nailed 8-of-12 shots from the floor and all four of his free throws. In addition to his team highs of 21 points and 12 rebounds, he also paced the Marauders with four assists.
Taking advantage of a strong first half from the field (14-of-30) and at the line (9-of-9), the Marauders played the NSIC North-leading Dragons to a 38-38 draw. Kreklow led UMary with 11 points and
Trever Kaiser added eight in the first 20 minutes of action.
In a game that featured 15 lead changes and 12 ties, the Dragons used an 11-0 run midway through the second half to take a 66-54 lead. The Marauders twice chipped the deficit down to six points, both on
Kam Warrens baskets, but were held off at the free throw line as the Dragons made 5-of-6 in the final 1:20 of the game.
Kaiser finished with 14 for the Marauders. He hit all six of hos free throws and added three steals. Warrens scored eight points.
Josh Sipes added seven points and five rebounds. Freshman
Deven Franks produced seven points off the bench and
Lucas Mayer and
Treyton Mattern scored five each in a reserve role.
Lorenzo McGhee led the Dragons with 21 points and seven rebounds. Bryce Irsfeld added 18.
The Marauders finished the night 20-of-21 and held a 33-31 edge in rebounding but connected on just 3-of-15 shots behind the arc. The Dragons were 9-of-25 on 3s and were 15-of-17 at the line.
The Marauders (4-9 overall, 4-7 NSIC) and the Dragons (7-2, 7-0) wrap up their weekend series with a 2 pm tipoff on Saturday, Feb. 13.
