Richter shines on Senior Day as Marauders win 6th straight game 2-1 over MSUM

BISMARCK, ND – Hannah Richter and her teammates shined on Senior Day as the University of Mary opened Homecoming '21 weekend with a 2-1 win over visiting MSU Moorhead. The victory was the sixth straight for the Marauders, who remain tied for second place in the Northern Sun.

In her final season at UMary, Richter played a key role in both UMary goals, scoring once and assisting on the opening score of the game.

"Our mission today was to show up big for our seniors and get the win for them!" said UMary head coach Sarah Cook. "They have put in a lot for this program and the team did their efforts justice.

"Hannah Richter was so threatening today and with her assist and her goal she was phenomenal. Bri Ramey came up big yet again. That was an amazing finish for the first goal.

"I'm really proud, of the group. We got to play a lot of players tonight with their amazing families here watching for family weekend."

Despite controlling the game, the Marauders (7-1-2/6-0-1 NSIC) were unable to score until the 40th minute when the hot foot of Brianna Ramey struck once again.

Already with two goals on the season, Ramey came off the bench to provide an offensive spark. After an initial shot by Richter was turned aside, the deflection went straight to Ramey. Pouncing on a loose ball in the top right of the goal box, the freshman blasted home her shot for a 1-0 UMary lead.

Continuing to hold the Dragons (0-10-0, 0-7-0) attack in check, the Marauders finally doubled their advantage on Richter's third goal of the season in the 85th minute. Taking advantage of a pair of tremendous passes from Cassidy Pierce and Yasmina Dokara, Richter moved just outside the top left of the box and unleashed a shot into the upper right reaches of the net.

With five straight shutouts already in the book, the odds looked pretty good of a sixth as the game moved into the final minute of play. But the Dragons refused to fade and instead struck for their only goal of the day with three seconds left in the match. Picking up a loose ball atop the goal box, Liana Ulness fired a shot into the lower left side of the net for the first goal allowed by UMary since the NSIC opener, a 2-2 draw at St. Cloud State.

The 6-game win streak is the Marauders longest since winning six straight games in 2012.

The Marauders held advantages in shots (11-4), shots in goal (5-3) and corner kicks (2-0).

The Marauders wrap up Homecoming '21 against Northern State University on Sunday, Oct. 10, at 1 pm.
