BISMARCK, ND - University of Mary forward Lexie Schneider had her first double-double of the year with a season-high 13 rebounds to go along with 12 points in the Marauders home loss to Bemidji State University, 66-61.
The Marauders ended the 1st period on a good note as they led the Beavers 13-7. UMary still maintained the lead over BSU at the end of the first half with a score of 31-27.
The Beavers caught fire in the third quarter, hitting four threes. UMary trailed by six going into the fourth quarter at 48-42 and was unable to rally a comeback.
UMary had three scorers in double digits. Senior guard Lauren Rotunda had a team-high 17 points and 8 rebounds. Senior guard Macy Williams had an efficient game scoring 14 points while going six of eight from the field. Williams also contributed a game-high seven assists in the contest.
Senior guard Coral Gillette had her best game of the season as she had nine points off the bench, going three of six from behind the arc.
The Marauders outrebounded the Beavers 39-33. Turnovers were a major problem for UMary, committing 18 compared to BSU's 12 and leading to a 21-4 edge in points off turnovers for the Beavers.
The Marauders shot 41.8% from the field, hitting 38.5% from behind the arc and going 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. The Beavers shot 41.3 from the field, shooting 38.5% from three and making just 4-of-11 from the free-throw line.
UMary (1-4, 1-2 in the NSIC) will play again at home against Bemidji State University (4-1, 3-0 in the NSIC) on Saturday, January 23, at 4 pm.
