Box Score ORLANDO, FL – Strong play in singles led the University of Mary tennis team to a 5-2 win over Wartburg College. After dropping the point from doubles play, the Marauders stormed back, winning five of six singles matches to claim victory. With the win UMary improves to 9-1 on the season. Wartburg College falls to 13-8 on the year.
UMary was only able to claim number two doubles when the duo of
Danielle Wolf and
Heidi Jacobson earned a 7-5 win. The Knights claimed number one and three doubles to earn the point and take a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
Tasha earned the Marauders their first point of the match with her 6-0, 6-3 win in number one singles.
Yusra Hegy kept the winning going for the Marauders with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at number two singles.
Kali Askvig picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at number six singles.
With the match even after a 5-7, 6-3 start,
Kelsey Lajom would head to a super tiebreaker to determine the winner. Lajom found herself down 5-9 before she came storming back to win 11-9. Her exciting victory clinched the match for the Marauders.
Heidi Jacobson also found herself in a super tiebreaker after a 4-6, 7-5 start. The Marauders freshman rose to the occasion in number four singles, claiming the super tiebreaker 10-8 to earn the win.
