UMary Tennis Opens Play In Florida With Win Over Cedarville

Box Score ORLANDO, FL – Playing in 90 degrees and sunshine, the University of Mary tennis team adapted and claimed a 4-3 victory over Cedarville University in their first match of their spring break trip. With the win the Marauders improve to 8-1 on the season and Cedarville falls to 4-5.
 
Tasha Dembo and Yusra Hegy claimed a 6-4 win at number one doubles. Danielle Wolf and Jamie Stoppler earned a highly competitive 7-6 win at number two doubles to earn the point for the Marauders.
 
Tasha Dembo rolled to a 6-2, 6-4 win at number one singles to give UMary their first singles point of the match.
 
Yusra Hegy finished second with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at number two single to help extend the Marauders lead.
 
The Yellow Jackets were able to claim singles three, four, and five to even things up at three all with only number six singles to be played.
 
Kali Askvig rose to the occasion and clinched the win at number six singles and the win for the Marauders tennis team. Askvig took to first set 6-3 before dropping the second 2-6 to force a super tiebreaker. Askvig won in the super tiebreaker by a score of 10-7 to give the Marauders the victory.
 
The Marauders will be back in action Friday, March 6 against Wartburg College at 7 AM.
