THIS WEEK
The University of Mary women's basketball team returns home after playing the past four games on the road. The Marauders are set to welcome Upper Iowa and Winona State to town this weekend to kick off a four game homestand. UMary and UIU will square off at 5:30 PM on Friday, February 7. The Marauders follow that up with a game against WSU on Saturday, February 8 at 3:30 PM.

 
LAST TIME OUT
The Marauders earned a weekend split the last time they took the court. UMary earned an 83-81 overtime win over Wayne State College. Cassie Askvig hit game tying shots at the end of regulation and overtime. The game tying shot in overtime set up Lauren Rotunda to hit the game winning free throws. Askvig led the Marauders with 25 points and eight rebounds. Macy Williams pitched in 19 points and Rotunda added 15 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. The Marauders fell to Augustana 80-73 in the second game of the weekend. The Marauders combined for 15 three pointers on the game with Megan Voit leading the way with six and Coral Gillette adding five. Voit totaled 20 points on the game with Gillette adding 17. Askvig had a big 15 point, 15 rebound double double.

 
THE RECORD
The Marauders come into the weekend with a 15-10 record, starting the season 9-7 in NSIC play.
 
OPPO RESEARCH – UPPER IOWA
Upper Iowa comes into the weekend with a 3-19 record and a 2-14 NSIC record. All three of the Peacocks wins have come on their home court. UIU is led by Jessica Musgrave who posts a team high of 14.3 PPG and 6.4 RPG. One of Upper Iowa's greatest strengths in their ability to knock down the three. The Peacocks are fifth in the NSIC, averaging 7.1 three pointers per game.


LAST MATCHUP
The Marauders earned a 69-65 win over the Peacocks the last time the two teams met up. Macy Williams led the team with 16 points and four assists. Coral Gillette pitched in 12 points, knocking down four three pointers.


HISTORY LESSON
The Marauders are 15-3 all-time against the Peacocks… UMary lost the first meeting between the schools at Fayette, IA, on Dec. 1, 2006, the Marauders first-ever NSIC game… The Marauders are 9-0 at home and 6-3 on the road.
 
OPPO RESEARCH – WINONA STATE
Winona State comes into the weekend with a 14-6 record, going 10-6 in NSIC play. The Warriors are truly Warriors on the road, posting a 7-1 record in away games. WSU is led by Taylor Hustad who leads the team in both points (15.1/game) and rebounds (8.7/game). Hustad leads the NSIC in scoring. Allie Pickrain adds 11.3 PPG for WSU. Emily Kieck leads the NSIC in assists with 4.7 per game.
 
 
LAST MATCHUP
Winona State was able to sneak a 57-54 victory the last time these two teams met. WSU used a big second quarter to put a bit of a gap between them and the Marauders. Macy Williams and Lexie Schneider each dropped 10 points. Williams added four assists.

HISTORY LESSON
The Marauders are 9-12 all-time against the Warriors… UMary is 8-3 at home and WSU is 9-1 on its home court… In the NSIC tournament UMary is 2-2 against WSU with both wins coming at home. UMary won playoff games at home 76-67 in 2010 and 72-66 in 2014 before falling 64-59 in 2017. Winona State won at home in 2015 (67-62)

SAMARITANS FEET
To raise awareness for those who may not have shoes, Neumann and Kittell will coach barefoot for Samaritan's Feet Night on Friday, February 7, when Upper Iowa University visits the McDowell Activity Center. This is the fifth straight year Neumann and Kittell have coached in their bare feet to help draw awareness for the need for shoes both here in the U.S. and around the world.
 
ALUMNI DAY
The Marauders will celebrate Alumni Day this Saturday, February 8. Come out and cheer on your UMary women's basketball team as they honor former Marauders.
 
  
GETTING BUCKETS
UMary is third in the Northern Sun in points per game averaging 74.4. The Marauders have a plus 8.2 points scoring margin over the opponents which is fifth in the Northern Sun. Cassie Askvig leads the conference in scoring, averaging 21.4 PPG. Lauren Rotunda ranks 20^th at 12.1 PPG. The Marauders lead the conference in field goal percentage (45.4). Askvig ranks fourth in the conference with a field goal percentage of 50.3 percent.
 
A HELPING PASS
The Marauders sure know how to share the ball. The team ranks first in the conference in assists, averaging 16.24 assists per game. Macy Williams is second in the conference averaging 4.1 assists per game. Williams is second in the conference in assists / turnover ratio. Rotunda is tied for 18^th in the conference in assists per game at 2.8.
 
DEEEE-FENSE
The Marauders allow just 66.2 points/game, seventh lowest in the NSIC. Teams are making 41.1 percent of their shots against UMary, ranking them 14^th in the conference in field goal percentage defense.
 
THIEVERY
UMary averages 7.36 steals per game this season, ranking them ninth in the Northern Sun. Christal Hearn leads the team with 1.5 steals a game, ranking tied for 15^th in the conference. 
 
DOWNTOWN
Averaging 7.3 treys/game, the Marauders rank fourth in the NSIC. Shooting 34 percent from behind the arc, UMary is sixth in the conference in three point shooting percentage. Coral Gillette is tied for third in the conference averaging 2.4 three pointers per game.
 
CHARITY STRIPE
Shooting 74.7 percent from the free throw line as a team this season the Marauders rank sixth in the NSIC. Lauren Rotunda ranks second in the NSIC, knocking down 90.05 percent of her free throws. In 12^th is Cassie Askvig, making 79 percent of her shots from the charity stripe.
 
CRASHING THE GLASS
The Marauders rank fifth in the NSIC in rebounding defense and fourth in rebounding margin, outrebounding opponents by 3.9 RPG on average. Lexie Schneider is seventh in the NSIC in rebounding, pulling down 7.6 boards per game. Askvig and Rotunda join her in the top 10. Rotunda is ninth with 7.3 RPG and Askvig is tenth with seven RPG.
 
MAKING HISTORY
Cassie Askvig just made history! With her 45 point performance against SMSU, Askvig broke the Marauders single game scoring record. She not only broke UMary's single game scoring record but the Northern Sun single game scoring record. She wasn't done breaking records just yet, she tied the Marauders single game record for free throws made with 17 against the Mustangs.
 
NATIONALLY KNOWN
Cassie Askvig, Macy Williams, and Lauren Rotunda aren't just at the top of the NSIC statistics rankings but they both have found a place amongst the best in NCAA Division II.
Cassie Askvig leads the nation in field goals made and in tenth in points per game
Lauren Rotunda is 11^th in the nation in free throw percentage
Macy Williams ranks 23^rd in total assists and 35^th nationally in assist to turnover ratio
 
NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The Marauders have had two athletes earn NSIC athlete of the week honors.
 Lauren Rotunda has earned the honor twice. She first earned the honor for her 19 point, eight rebound, six assist performance against Minot State during a dominant 81-60 win. Later on, she would repeat as NSIC North Player of the Week for her 23 PPG, 6 RPG, and 2 APG weekend in a pair of wins over UMC and BSU.
Cassie Askvig earned hers after averaging 34 PPG and 5.5 RPG. She also dropped a career high of 36 points over the weekend.

CLIMBING THE MARAUDERS ALL TIME RANKINGS
Cassie Askvig currently has 1,620 career points and 791 career rebounds. She ranks seventh all-time in points and fifth all-time in rebounds. She also sits sixth all-time in career blocks with 68.
Lauren Rotunda moves into fourth all-time in career steals with 114.
Macy Williams climbs to 13^th all-time in career assists with 264.

LIVING UP TO EXPECTATIONS
Coming into the season as defending NSIC player of the year the expectations are high for senior Cassie Askvig and she is living up to those expectations. The Marauders senior is averaging 21.4 PPG and 7 RPG throughout this season.

The Marauders thrive off of a big crowd, boasting a 10-3 record on the home court last season and an 8-3 record so far this year. Come out and pack the MAC and cheer your Marauders onto victory.
