FARGO, ND – The University of Mary tennis season is finally upon us. The Marauders are set to open their season this weekend with a pair of matches in Fargo. UMary opens their season up against Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday, February 8 at 3 PM. They follow that up with a match with Minnesota State – Mankato on Sunday, February 9 at 9 AM.
 
The Marauders 14 wins tied a school record and their seven conference wins were the second most in program history and the most since 2014. At the helm of the Marauders tremendous season was 
Vida Saliendra who was named NSIC coach of the year in 2019, helping UMary improve their win total by eight victories from the previous season.
 
The UMary tennis team will return all seven athletes from last season while adding two newcomers.
Tasha Dembo will lead the Marauders charge after earning first team all-conference honors last season. Dembo went 15-5 last year and 8-3 in NSIC play. Her 15 wins were the most among number one single players in the Northern Sun. The Marauders junior has earned All-Conference in each of her first two years playing for UMary.
 
Yusra Hegy earned All-NSIC second team honors for her work at number two singles. Hegy boasted a 14-4 record, going 7-2 in NSIC play.
 
The duo of 
Danielle Wolf and 
Jamie Stoppler were dominant all year, earning All-NSIC second team honors for their work in number two doubles. The pair of Marauders went 16-2 overall and 9-1 in NSIC play, the best winning percentage in the conference.
 
Kelsey Lajom earned a 9-9 record in 2019 in #3 singles.
 
Jaimie Stoppler had an impressive 15-4 record in #4 singles, going 7-2 in NSIC competition.
 
Danielle Wolf posted a 7-11 record at #5 singles.
 
Kalie Askvig tallied a 6-11 record at #6 singles.
 
The Marauders host their first home competition of the season February 15-16 against Minnesota Crookston and Bemidji State. On February 15, the Marauders and UMC square off at 1 PM. UMary and BSU battle on February 16 at 9 AM. Both matches will take place at the Capital Racquet and Fitness Center in Bismarck.
