Marauders Tennis Picks Up Big Win Over Minnesota Duluth

Box Score BISMARCK, ND – Facing a tough foe, the University of Mary tennis team rose to the occasion taking down the University of Minnesota Duluth 5-2. The Marauders were able to take the doubles point by winning two of three and then claimed victories in number one, two, four, and six singles to clinch the victory.
 
With the win, UMary improves to 6-1 on the season. UMD falls to 6-3 on the season.
 
The duo of Tasha Dembo and Yusra Hegy claimed a 6-3 victory at no. one singles followed by a 6-4 win by the pair of Kelsey Lajom and Kali Askvig at no. 3 singles to claim the doubles point for UMary.
 
Tasha Dembo dominated at no. one singles. The junior took the match 6-2, 6-0 to give UMary their first singles point.
 
Yusra Hegy picked up the win at number two singles. After dropping the first set 3-6, Hegy would not be denied, winning the final two sets 6-0, 6-1 to earn victory.
 
Jamie Stoppler sealed the deal on the win for the Marauders with a 6-2 ,7-6 victory in number four singles.
 
Kali Askvig reigned victorious in the most competitive match of the day. Askvig took the first set 7-6 after winning in a marathon of a tiebreaker 19-17. After things were evened up in the second set, Askvig claimed the super tiebreaker 10-5 to earn the win.
 
The Marauders will be back in action tomorrow, March 1 for their final home match of the season. UMary will square off against St. Cloud State at 1 PM in the Capital Racquet and Fitness Center.
