Marauders Tennis Bounces Back With Big 6-1 Win Over Upper Iowa

Box Score WINONA, MN – The University of Mary tennis team bounced back in a big way, picking up a 6-1 victory over Upper Iowa to improve their record to 5-1 on the season.
 
The Marauders began the day by sweeping doubles play. The duo of Tasha Dembo and Yusra Hegy claimed the 7-5 victory at number one doubles. Danielle Wolf and Jamie Stoppler took the win at number two doubles by a score of 6-4.
 
Tasha Dembo found herself in a highly competitive match at number one singes where she came out victorious. Dembo claimed the first set 6-3 before Deimante Krivickaite took the second set 6-3. Dembo sealed the deal on a win by taking the super tiebreaker 10-3.
 
Yusra Hegy suffered the loss in another back and forth battle at number two singles. Hegy took the first set 7-6 before Varvara Ogorodnikova took the second set 5-7 and then the tiebreaker.
 
Kelsey Lajom dominated at number three singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Alejandra Abella.
 
Jamie Stoppler closed out her weekend with a controlling 6-0, 6-1 win over Mya Herrmann.
 
UMary claimed number five and six singles due to UIU not having any players to compete in those matches.
 
The Marauders return home for their final two home matches of the season next weekend. UMary takes on Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, February 29 at 1 PM. They will follow that up with a match against St. Cloud State on Sunday, March 1 at 1 PM.
