Box Score WINONA, MN – In a battle of two of the NSIC's top tennis teams, the University of Mary suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Winona State. The Warriors were able to overcome the Marauders by a score of 6-1.
With the loss the Marauders fall to 4-1 on the season. Winona State improves to 4-1 on the season.
Yusra Hegy picked up the point for the Marauders with her 6-4, 7-6 win over Kendra Kappes in number two singles.
Tasha Dembo and Beth Murman had a tremendous battle at number one singles. Dembo claimed the first set 6-1 with Murman taking set two 6-3. Murman was able to clinch the super tiebreaker 12-10 to earn the win.
Jamie Stoppler and Rachel Kelly found themselves in a highly competitive match at number four singles. Stoppler took the first set 7-5 with Kelly taking set two 6-3. Kelly earned the win with a 10-7 advantage in the super tiebreaker.
The Marauders were able to clinch number one doubles but WSU earned the point by claiming number two and three doubles. Trailing 1-4 in number one singles,
Tasha Dembo and
Yusra Hegy stormed back, posting five straight to earn a 6-4 victory.
UMary will look to bounce back against the Peacocks tomorrow. The Marauders and Upper Iowa will face off at 9:30 AM on February 23.
