Marauders Begin Homestand With UMD, SCSU This Weekend

THIS WEEK
The University of Mary women's basketball team hosts their first home games of the new year this weekend. The pair of games coming up begin a four game home stretch for the Marauders. UMary opens the weekend up by welcoming the University of Minnesota Duluth to town for a game on Friday, January 10 at 5:30 PM in the McDowell Activity Center. The Marauders wrap up the weekend against St. Cloud State on Saturday, January 11 at 3:30 PM in the MAC.

 
LAST TIME OUT
The last time the Marauders took the court was for a pair of losses to Concordia – St. Paul and Minnesota State. The Golden Bears would best the Marauders by a score of 91-72 with the Mavericks beating the Marauders 70-59. Cassie Askvig led the way for the Marauders in both games, recording 20 points and five rebounds against CSP and 18 points and nine rebounds versus MSU.

 
THE RECORD
The Marauders come into the weekend with a 11-6 record, starting the season 5-3 in NSIC play.

 
OPPO RESEARCH – MINNESOTA DULUTH
NSIC leading Minnesota Duluth comes into the game with the Marauders with an 11-3 record, going 8-0 in Northern Sun play. The Bulldogs are a well rounded team with six different players averaging 7.9 PPG or more. UMD is led by Brooke Olson who averages 16.1 PPG. The Bulldogs share the ball very well, ranking second in the conference in assists. UMD is great at protecting the rim, ranking third in the conference in blocks with 4.07 per game.

 
LAST MATCHUP
The Bulldogs handed the Marauders their first conference loss of the season when two teams met up earlier this season. UMD held an 87-75 advantage. Cassie Askvig and Lauren Rotunda both posted big double doubles on the game with Askvig posting 24 points and 10 rebounds and Rotunda with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Williams leads the conference in assists / turnover ratio. Gillette ranks 17th in assists with 2.8 per game.

The Marauders rank fourth in the NSIC in rebounding defense. UMary ranks fifth in rebounding margin with a plus 4.7 RPG average. Lexie Schneider is fifth in the NSIC in rebounding, pulling down 8.2 boards per game. Askvig and Rotunda join her in the top 15. Rotunda is ninth with 7.0 RPG and Askvig is 11th with 6.6 RPG.
 
NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
For the first time this season a Marauders women's basketball player earned NSIC North Player of the week. Lauren Rotunda earned the honor for her 19 point, eight rebound, six assist performance against Minot State during a dominant 81-60 win.

CLIMBING THE MARAUDERS ALL TIME RANKINGS
Cassie Askvig currently has 1,417 career points and 727 career rebounds. She ranks ninth all-time in points and sixth all-time in rebounds. She also sits sixth all-time in career blocks with 65.
Lauren Rotunda moves into sixth all-time in career steals with 104.
Macy Williams climbs to 16th all-time in career assists with 237.

LIVING UP TO EXPECTATIONS
Coming into the season as defending NSIC player of the year the expectations are high for senior Cassie Askvig and she is living up to those expectations. The Marauders senior is averaging 19.5 PPG and 6.6 RPG early on this season.
