BISMARCK, ND – For a second straight week, the University of Mary hockey team remains atop the national rankings. After winning four games last weekend at the Big Mountain Classic, the Marauders held their claim to the top rating in the 8th American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division 2 poll of the 2019-20 season. UMary also headlined the #4 and #7 rankings of the year.

The Marauders, who have topped the last 19 ACHA Division 2 West region rankings, are 31-6 overall this season and 30-3 against fellow D2 teams. UMary is 23-1 against teams in the West region.

UMary owns a national rating of 13.325, which places the Marauders ahead of Florida Gulf Coast (13.007), Mass-Amherst (12.995), Lindenwood (12.940) and Sault College (12.940) among the top five teams. The ranking system for 2019-20 is as follows:
RATING= The sum of the Average Goal Differential, Strength of Schedule and Winning Percentage.
AGD (Average Goal Differential)= The average difference between the select team and its opponents(Max of 7 for M2, and W2and Max of 5 for M3): approx. 3.2% of total rating
Win %= The number of wins divided by the number of games played: approx..8% of total rating
SOS (Strength of Schedule)= the average of the ratings of your opponents:  approx. 96% of total rating
Forfeit penalties will be assessed "post calculation", meaning after the rating is determined for all teams, the penalty will then be assessed, and the offending team will be re-slotted in the ranking at their new rating total.

UMary puts its top ranking on the line this weekend in a home-and-away series with Dakota College. The Marauders host the Lumberjacks at 7 pm on Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Schwan Cadillac Rink at Starion Sports complex in Mandan, ND.
