BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary is mourning the loss of Rick Anthony, former voice of the Marauders. Anthony passed away on July 11.

A legendary sportscaster who won numerous North Dakota Broadcast Association (NDBA) awards for sports reporting and play-by-play calls, Anthony was part of Marauders athletics for nearly a dozen years. He joined the Marauders football broadcast crew in 2006, University of Mary's first season competing in the NCAA Division II ranks.

In 2011, Anthony took over play-by-play duties for Marauders football and men's and women's basketball, travelling across the Upper Midwest with the teams calling the action for Marauders fans on KFYR 550 AM and 710 AM radio stations. He retired from broadcasting UMary games in the spring of 2018.

"I am deeply saddened by the passing of Rick Anthony," said University of Mary director of Athletics Dale Lennon. "Rick brought a high level of professionalism to our football and basketball broadcasts that added to the game experience. He was always willing to assist in the promotions of our teams. My condolences go out to Rick's family. He will be missed."

"Rick was a great friend and a valued member of our program," said Marauders head men's basketball coach Joe Kittell. "His excitement for our program and kindness toward people will be what I remember the most. He was a true professional in sports play by play."

"Rick was a recognizable voice for Marauders athletics as well as the local community," said Marauders head women's basketball coach Rick Neumann. "His commitment to our athletes was second to none. He took the time to build relationships with our staff and players. Rick was a first-class person and I'll miss his friendship very much."

In addition to his work with the Marauders, Anthony was the radio voice of the NBDL (National Basketball Development League) Champion Dakota Wizards and the Magic City Snowbears CBA (Continental Basketball Association) team. He broadcasted countless high school and college sports and was also a morning and midday radio host.
