Backes Records Career High In Strikeouts As Marauders Fall In Two Competitive Games Against SCSU

ST. CLOUD, MN – The University of Mary softball team fought hard in two highly competitive games against St. Cloud State today. The Marauders recorded four doubles on the day with Mariah Sanchez and Paige Matsuki knocking in homers. UMary brought their bats to the park today recording 18 hits in Coach Roan's first time coaching against her Alma Mater. UMary dropped the two highly competitive games 8-5, 4-3.
 
With today's losses, UMary falls to 13-17 overall and 4-6 in the NSIC.
 
 
GAME 1 University of Mary 5 St. Cloud State 8
Both teams brought their bats during game one with both teams recording double digit hits. UMary held the advantage recording 12 hits compared to 10 by SCSU. Rebekkah Keller, Kylie Alto, and Emma Noble all recorded doubles on the day. Mariah Sanchez used her speed to record her first inside the park homerun of the season! Eight different Marauders recorded hits on the day with four athletes posting a pair of hits.
 
PIVOT POINT
The Huskies were able to record a pair of runs in both the fifth and sixth inning to keep the Marauders from making a comeback.

Mariah Sanchez went 2-3 with two RBIs and a homerun
 
Rachael Laetsch went 2-4 with a run scored and a stolen base

Mariah Sanchez, usually known for hitting triples, added an extra base to that today. The freshman sped around the bases for an inside the park homerun in the sixth inning.

The Marauders came out on fire in game two recording all three of their runs in the first inning off of an RBI double by Alvarado and a two run homer by Paige Matsuki. Brieann Backes recorded a career high in strikeouts with 10 during her complete game of action.
 
PIVOT POINT
With UMary holding a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning, SCSU recorded a three run homerun to take a 4-3 lead.
