Matsuki Sends Two Balls Out Of The Park, Marauders Drop Two Close Games At UMD

DULUTH, MN – Extra bases was the name of the game for the University of Mary softball team in today's double headers against Minnesota Duluth. UMary recorded three homeruns and five doubles on the day. Paige Matsuki led the way with two homeruns with Kaitlyn Alvarado adding two doubles. UMary fell in the first game by a score of 7-3. They followed that up with a heartbreaking 8-7 loss in game two.
 
With today's losses, UMary falls to 13-19 overall and 4-8 in the NSIC.
 
 
GAME 1 University of Mary 3 Minnesota Duluth 7
The duo of Paige Matsuki and Kylie Alto both sent balls out of the park in the Marauders hard fought loss against UMD. Kasidy Chileen joined the duo by recording an RBI to give UMary a total of three runs on the day. Outside of the first inning each team recorded three runs of the game but a big first inning by UMD gave them just enough to claim victory.
 
PIVOT POINT
The Bulldogs took a 4-0 lead in the first inning. UMary was able to play UMD evenly for the remainder of the game but the early deficit was too much to overcome.

STAT OF THE GAME
Two of the Marauders four hits on the game were launched out of the park. Matsuki smoked her third homer of the season and Alto sent her sixth flying out of the park.
 
GAME 2 UMary 7 UMD 8
The Marauders brought their bats to game two with five different athletes recording two or more hits on the game. Four UMary softball players hit doubles with Kaitlyn Alvarado leading the way with two. Paige Matsuki hit her second homerun of the day. The Marauders had a big third inning, recording five runs to take a 5-3 lead heading to the bottom of the third. The Marauders found themselves behind 7-5 entering the seventh but that did not derail them. Alvarado and Berube each recorded an RBI to tie the game up at seven runs each. UMD was able to sneak a run across in the bottom of the seventh to take the win.
 
 
PIVOT POINT
The Marauders battled their way back into the ball game, tying the game up 7-7 heading into the bottom of the seventh. UMD loaded the bases and then three straight called balls walked in the winning run for the Bulldogs.

The Marauders had a great third inning, recording five runs off of five hits. Paige Matsuki got things going with a homerun followed immediately by back to back doubles by Kaitlyn Alvarado and Emma Noble. Haley Berube joined the festivities by smoking a double two batters later.
 
 
ON DECK
The Marauders return home to take on Minnesota Crookston on Wednesday, April 10 at 2 PM and 4 PM. The game will be held on the University of Mary Campus field!
