Chilly Temperatures Can’t Cool Off The Marauders Bats As They Hit Their Way To A Sweep Of UMC

BISMARCK, ND – The Chilly temperatures did not slow down the University of Mary softball team as they swept Minnesota Crookston. The Marauders came to play, ready to protect their true home field in the first two games on it this season. Brieann Backes and Madison Jahner each threw complete games and earned wins. Rebekkah Keller and Kasidy Chileen led the way from the plate, each recording four hits on the day. Chileen added four RBIs with her four hits. UMary beat UMC 5-2 in game one and 8-2 in game two.
 
With today's wins, UMary improves to 15-19 overall and 6-8 in the NSIC.
 
 
GAME 1 University of Mary 5 Minnesota Crookston 2
Game one started out as a defensive battle for the first three innings before a scoring frenzy occurred in the fourth inning. All seven of the games runs were scored in the fourth with the Marauders bringing in five of them. Eryn de Jonge got the Marauders rolling in the fourth when she knocked in a run with her single to left field. Chileen kept things going by knocking in two more runs with her single to left center field. A Rachael Laetsch sacrifice fly and a Kylie Alto single knocked in the other two runs for the Marauders in the fifth. Backes threw another complete game, earning her tenth win of the season.
 
PIVOT POINT
A scoreless game until the fourth, the Marauders brought home five runs to take a 5-2 lead which would hold for the remainder of the game. UMary scored five runs off of six hits in the inning.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Haley Berube went 2-3 with a run scored and a stolen base
 
Eryn de Jonge went 1-2 with an RBI, run scored, stolen base, and walk
 
Rebekkah Keller went 1-3 with a stolen base
 
Kasidy Chileen went 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored
 
Brieann Backes earned the winning, only allowing two runs and striking out four
 
STAT OF THE GAME
The Marauders exploded in the fourth inning, recording all five of their runs and six of their seven hits.

The Marauders got their bats going in game two! UMary smoked 14 hits on the game. Of those 14 hits there were four doubles, a triple, and a homerun. Every single Marauders athlete recorded a hit on the game with Keller and Chileen leading the way with three a piece. Rachael Laetsch smacked a triple to right field in the fifth inning. The very next batter, Kylie Alto smoked a ball over the fence, the strong wind gusts were no match for the power of Alto. The two run fifth inning capped five straight innings of the Marauders putting runs on the board. Madison Jahner headed the strong defensive performance by UMary earning her third win of the season.
 
 
PIVOT POINT
The Marauders scored early and they scored often. UMary put up one run in each of the first two innings before tallying a pair of runs in each of the next three innings to take a commanding lead.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Kylie Alto went 2-5 with a double, a homerun, two RBIs and two runs scored
 
Rebekkah Keller went 3-5 with a double, a stolen base and a run scored
 
Kasidy Chileen went 3-4 with a double and two RBIs

Rachael Laetsch recorded a triple and scored a run
 
Emma Noble went 1-3 with a double, a run scored and a walk
 
Madison Jahner pitched a complete game only allowing two runs and earned her third win of the season
 
 
STAT OF THE GAME
Every single player recorded a hit on the game. Five different players posted extra base hits. Keller, Alto, Noble, Chileen all recorded doubles. Laetsch posted a triple. Alto added to her double with a homerun.

The Marauders hit the road to Sioux Falls, SD to take on Augustana on Saturday, April 13 at 1 PM and 3 PM.
