Tremendous Pitching Performances By Alvarado and Backes Leads The Marauders To A Sweep Of NSU

BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary softball team received stellar performances from both Kaitlyn Alvarado and Brieann Backes on the mound. The duo each pitched a complete game and earned a win for UMary. Haley Berube and Rachael Laetsch led the Marauders from the plate, each recording three hits on the day. UMary took down the Wolves 2-1 in the first game and 8-0 in the second game.
 
With today's wins, UMary improves to 13-15 overall and 4-4 in the NSIC.
 
 
GAME 1 University of Mary 2 Northern State 1
Game one proved to be a defensive battle between the two teams with the Marauders coming out on top in the end. Alvarado had a great day on the mound striking out five and only allowing one earned run in her seven innings of work. Five different Marauders recorded a hit on the day. Runs in the fourth and sixth inning sealed the deal on a Marauders victory!
 
PIVOT POINT
With the game all tied up and one run a piece in the sixth inning, Erin de Jonge came to the plate and recorded a sacrifice fly, scoring Paige Matsuki. Alvarado forced the Wolves to go three up and three down in the seventh to clinch the win for the Marauders.

The Marauders took down the Wolves 8-0 in five innings of work in game two. It was a team effort for UMary with all nine Marauders who batted recording a hit on the day. A three-for-three performance by Laetsch and two doubles by Berube led the way for UMary. Backes earned the shutout for UMary in her five innings of work. The Marauders recorded three doubles and four stolen bases during game two.
 
PIVOT POINT
The Marauders started hot and stayed hot. UMary didn't take long to build themselves a 5-0 lead. The Marauders recorded five runs off of six hits in the first inning. A Kylie Alto double knocked in three runs.
