Doubles By Alto, Laetsch, Matsuki Headline Marauders efforts in losses to #7 Winona State

WINONA, MN – The University of Mary softball team battled hard against their toughest competition of the season. The #7 Winona State Warriors proved to be too much for the Marauders to handle as they swept UMary. The Marauders were able to record three doubles against the talented pitching staff of WSU.
 
With today's losses the Marauders record falls to 21-27 overall and 12-16 in NSIC play. The Warriors improve to 43-5 overall and 28-0 in NSIC play.
 
GAME 1 University of Mary 2 Winona State 5
A big double by Kylie Alto knocked in the Marauders two runs of the game in the sixth inning. Batters one through Seven in the Marauders lineup all recorded a hit on the game with Rachael Laetsch leading the way with a pair of them, including a double. The #7 Warriors were able to hit a pair of homeruns to score their first two runs of the game, followed by a three run fifth inning to give themselves a total of five runs. Each team recorded eight hits.
 
PIVOT POINT
Three runs in the fifth inning by WSU gave them a 5-0 lead. UMary attempted to make a comeback by putting up two runs in the sixth but the effort came up just a bit short.

The Warriors pitching staff brought their A game in game two, striking out the Marauders 12 times. Paige Matsuki led the Marauders with the teams lone hit of the game when she hit a double in the fourth inning. Matsuki led the team in the field as well, recording a game high of three assists on the game.
 
 
PIVOT POINT
WSU was able to score runs in all four of their innings at the plate. A four run fourth inning put the game out of reach.
