Big Games By Matsuki, Noble Headline Marauders Efforts In Season Ending Losses To UIU

FAYETTE, IA – Four hits and a homerun by Paige Matsuki and a double and a homerun by Emma Noble led the way for the University of Mary softball team against Upper Iowa. The Marauders battled hard against the the Peacocks but UIU was able to take both games today and eliminate the Marauders from playoff contention.
 
With today's losses the Marauders conclude their season with a 21-29 record, going 12-18 in NSIC play.
 
GAME 1 University of Mary 2 Upper Iowa 8
The Marauders were able to put runs up on the board in the second and fifth inning. A single by Rebekkah Keller in the second inning sent home Mariah Sanchez. UMary tallied another run in the fifth when Paige Matsuki blasted a solo homerun to left center. Matsuki led the way for UMary both at the plate and in the field. The senior recorded a game high of four assists and a team high of two hits. UIU was able to score six run in the first two innings to lead them to an 8-2 win.
 
PIVOT POINT
The Peacocks jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the second inning. A grand slam by UIU in the second put momentum on the side of the Peacocks.

Paige Matsuki went 2-3 with a homerun and a walk
 
Emma Noble went 1-4 with a double

STAT OF THE GAME
Rachael Laetsch made four plate appearances in the game and drew four straight walks. Laetsch made it six straight walks on the day when she drew two more in her first two at bats of game two.
 
GAME 2 UMary 4 WSU 14
Emma Noble and Paige Matsuki led the way for UMary, each recording a pair of hits during game two. Mariah Sanchez put the Marauders on the board in the fourth inning when she singled through the right side, knocking in both Noble and Matsuki. Emma Noble gave the Marauders their other two runs of the game in the fifth inning when she blasted a two run shot out to left field. Upper Iowa was able to put runs up in every inning that they were at the plate to claim a 14-4 win.  
 
 
PIVOT POINT
A big second and fourth inning by UIU proved to be the difference in the ball game. The Peacocks were able to score five runs in the second inning and seven in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach for UMary.
