SCHEDULE UPDATE Midweek doubleheader with Beavers opens final Marauders baseball homestand of 2019

SCHEDULE UPDATE
Due to anticipated rain this weekend, the final scheduled home weekend for the University of Mary baseball team has been moved forward one day. UMary will now host visiting Southwest Minnesota State University in a three-game Northern Sun series on Friday and Saturday, April 26-27. 

Friday's twin bill is slated to begin at 10 am with game two to start at approximately 12 noon. A single nine-inning game on Saturday commences at 12 noon. 

THIS WEEK

The University of Mary baseball team closes out their 2019 home schedule this week with five games. The Marauders open with a midweek doubleheader against Bemidji State University on Wednesday, April 24. The Northern Sun doubleheader begins at 1:30 pm with game two set to start around 3:30 pm. UMary then hosts Southwest Minnesota State University in a three-game set on Friday and Saturday, April 26-27 (NOTE The SMSU series was originally slated for April 27-28 but moved up a day due to weather concerns). Friday's twin bill starts at 10 am with game two slayed for 12 noon. The weekend and the season's home schedule concludes on Saturday with a single 9-inning game at 12 noon. All games are slated to be played at Bismarck's Municipal Ballpark.
 
RADIO WAVES
The Marauders baseball games on Wednesday, April 24, and Sunday, April 28, will be broadcast throughout the state with Jesse Rostvedt, Voice of the Marauders, on the call. The Bemidji State doubleheader on April 24 will air on Fox Sports 710. Sunday's single game with Southwest Minnesota State will air on KFYR 550.
 
SENIOR SALUTE
UMary honors its 13 seniors on Saturday, April 27, on Senior Day. Darius Barlas, Charles Bielejeski, Alec DeMaria, Connor Doll, Ian Fisher, Colin Gudereit, Travis Holte, Nick McCann, Jesus Payan, Daulton Sauce, Chris Scott, Travis Stevens and Dylan Thomas all are in their final season with the Marauders. Barlas, Bielejeski, DeMaria, Doll, McCann, Sauce, Scott and Stevens each played four seasons for the Marauder.  
 
WINS
With 12 overall wins and eight conference wins, the Marauders have tied for the program high in both categories since winning 15 games overall in 2014 and posting 12 conference wins in 2010. 
 
THE CHASE
With two weeks and ten games remaining, the Marauders are sitting in 11th place in the Northern Sun standings. With eight teams making the postseason tournament, the Marauders are in the running for the final two slots. Ove the next two weeks, the Marauders host two teams below UMary in the standings (Bemidji State and Southwest Minnesota State), visit second place St. Cloud State in a midweek doubleheader and play at Northern State on the final week of the season. The Wolves are also in the running for one of the final two playoff slots.  
 
LEADOFF SPARK
Jaxon Ford has hit in eight straight games, including five multi-hit games. Last week he was 10-for-26 with two runs scored and two RBIs. The junior leadoff hitter and center fielder is now hitting .281/.359/.345. The Bismarck, ND, leads the team in doubles with nine and is second in runs scored with 20. His eight steals in 11 attempts is third on the squad.
 
BLAST OFF
Darius Barlas posted hits in five of six games last week, finishing 7-of-20 with four runs scored and three RBIs with three doubles and a home run. His nine homers this season ties Andy Leer and Tyler Liffrig's 2010 total for the most by a UMary player since Liffrig hit 11 in 2009. For the year he is hitting .317/.393/.593 with seven doubles, nine home runs, 29 RBIs and 23 runs scored. Barlas also had been hit a team-high nine times. Despite moving from third base to second base and now to shortstop, Barlas has just three errors on the season.
 
BLAST OFF II
Entering the 2019 season Darius Barlas had homered just once in his career. He has nine this season.
 
CRUSH
Jesus Payan is on a tear, posting hits in 10 of his last 11 games. In six games last week he was 7-of-20 with three runs scored, six RBIs, two doubles and a home run. He is now hitting .352/.427/.536 for the season with eight doubles, three triples, three home runs and 25 RBIs with 20 runs scored. His career .345 average is currently sixth all-time at UMary.
 
SWISS ARMY KNIFE
Senior Connor Doll has played all across the diamond for the Marauders. While settling into third base this season, he has also saw some time behind the plate. Hitting second in the lineup, the Hazen, ND, native is hitting .248/.333/.320 with 17 runs scored, four doubles, a triple and home run with 10 RBIs. He leads the team with 10 steals in 11 attempts.
 
AGGRESSIVE
The Marauders have 64 steals this season to establish an NCAA era team mark. The school record is 108 in 1997. UMary is fifth in the NSIC in steals this season.
 
K-POW
The Marauders pitching staff averages 7.9 strikeouts per nine innings this season. That rate currently the program's best over the last 13 years. Last season UMary averaged 5.32 strikeouts per nine innings.
 
LET IT FLY
Senior reliever Charles Bielejeski leads the Marauders in ERA with a mark of 1.69. In 14 appearances covering 21.1 innings he has allowed 15 hits and struck out 19, picking up a win and two saves this season.
 
POWER BALL
Sr. RHP Chris Scott averages nearly two strikeouts per inning in his closer role. Scott has 12 strikeouts in 6.1 innings over nine outings. He has allowed just three hits and has two saves. Scott's primary role is starting left fielder for the Marauders. A 2018 Gold Glove winner, Scott has made several sparking defensive plays again for UMary this season.
 
POWER GAME
Three UMary hurlers average more than a strikeout per inning (minimum 13 innings pitched). Soph. RHP Andrew Brooks leads the squad with 35 strikeouts in 32.1 innings covering nine appearances, including seven starts. Freshman reliever Brandon Gill has 21 strikeouts with ten walks in 17.2 innings. Quentin Evers, also a freshman reliever, has 23 strikeouts in 19.2 innings. He also has a save.
 
CONTROL
A pair of freshmen own two of the Marauders best strikeout-to-walk ratios. Jonathan Draheim has struck out 31 hitters and walked 14. In eight stats, he leads the team in wins (three), innings pitched (42.1) and complete games. Draheim has a 4.25 ERA… Daniel Turner has 18 strikeouts and six walks in 20.1 innings. A recent addition to the starting rotation, Turner has allowed just 17 hits covering six appearances and three starts.
