After 12 straight scheduled home dates, the University of Mary baseball team heads east to Duluth, MN, for a four-game set with the University of Minnesota Duluth on Friday and Saturday, April 19-20. Friday's Northern Sun doubleheader begins at 1:30 pm and will be played at Wade Stadium in Duluth. Saturday's two-game set is slated to start as 12 noon and is scheduled to be played at Superior High School in Superior, WI. (NOTE: Game two of Saturday's twin bill is a non-conference game).

The Marauders are 12-22 overall and 8-14 in the Northern Sun to currently sit in 10
th place. The Marauders are 1.5 games behind Northern State for the 8
th and final NSIC tournament slot with 12 conference games remaining… The Bulldogs are 8-25 and 6-17, 12
th in the NSIC.

After 12 straight scheduled home games, the Marauders are the visitors on the scoreboard for four straight games at UMD. UMary then returns to Bismarck and Municipal Ballpark for five straight games, hosting Bemidji State in a midweek series on April 24 and Southwest Minnesota State for three games on April 27-28.

BYE BYE BARLAS
Darius Barlas is having a tremendous senior season. The Orangeville, Ontario, native is hitting .306/.387/.565 with eight home runs, 26 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He leads the Marauders in slugging, home runs, RBIs and runs scored. His eight home runs is the most for a UMary player since Tyler Liffrig and Andy Leer both hit nine in 2010. He is fourth in the NSIC in home runs.

Jesus Payan is on a tear. He has hits in 12 of his last 13 games. During that span the senior right fielder is hitting .500/.520/.783 with five doubles, a triple, two home runs and 16 RBIs. He also is 4-for-5 in steals. In five games against Winona State and Minnesota Crookston Payan was 12-for-18… Foe the season Payan leads the Marauders in batting average and on base percentage and had a slash line of .357/.424/.518. In 34 games he has scored 18 runs, driven in 22, and has hit six doubles, three triples and two home runs. Payan also has eight steals.

RECORD BOOK
Jesus Payan has found himself at the top of the Marauders NCAA era (2007 and on) single game record book in a couple of categories. He ties the school NCAA mark in steals with three against Minot State to lead the UMary record onslaught of nine. Payan also tied the school mark for RBIs in a single game with five against Minnesota Crookston.

Jesus Payan, the Marauders tied the school record for stolen bases in a single game with nine against Minot State University in a 10-8 loss on Wednesday. Payan tied the school mark with three steals.

Nick McCann all had one. The Marauders previously had nine steals against Post in 2014.

The Marauders have 63 steals this season. It equals the most steals in a single season by the Marauders during UMary's NCAA era. UMary is fifth in the NSIC in stolen bases.

The Marauders pitching staff averages 7.72 strikeouts per nine innings this season. That rate currently is tops during past 13 years. Last season UMary averaged 5.32 strikeouts per nine innings.

Currently the Marauders have a 5.52 staff ERA. It is the 2
nd lowest mark for the program in the NCAA era, trailing the 5.01 mark posted in 2013.

Senior reliever
Charles Bielejeski leads the Marauders in ERA with a mark of 1.83. in 12 appearances covering 19.2 innings he has allowed 13 hits and struck out 18, picking up a win and two saves this season.

FRESHMAN FIREPOWER
Freshman
Jonathan Draheim and
Daniel Turner have posted some of the best nimbers by Marauders pitchers this season. Draheim is tied for the team lead in wins with three and has a team-high 38.1 innings pitched with two complete games. He has 13 walks and 24 strikeouts. Turner has received a pair of midweek starts has posted a pair of tremendous performances. In five game – two starts – Turner owns a 2.89 ERA, allowing just four walks and 13 hits while striking out 16 in 18.2 innings… In the bullpen,
Brandon Gill and
Quentin Evers bring the power. Gill has 18 strikeouts in 15.2 innings and Evers has 23 in 19.2 innings.
