MINOT, ND – The University of Mary softball team earned a split against Minot State during their NSIC opener. Bombs by
Paige Matsuki and
Haley Berube led UMary to a big 11-5 come from behind victory in game one of NSIC play. The Beavers got their bats going in the second game taking down UMary 12-0. The Marauders record is 10-12 overall and 1-1 in NSIC play.
GAME 1 Minot State 5 University of Mary 11
A seven run sixth inning propelled the Marauders to a big win in the first game of conference play over the Beavers of Minot State. Homers by Matsuki and Berube highlighted the efforts on the day, both blasting two run homers. Eight unanswered runs by UMary proved to be a big factor in the game.
Brieann Backes earned her seventh win of the season from the mound.
PIVOT POINT
UMary trailed 5-4 entering the bottom of the sixth inning. A two run blast by Berube gave the Marauders all of the momentum leading them to score a total of seven runs in the inning and take control of the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Haley Berube went 2-4 with a double and a homerun with 2 RBIs
Kasidy Chileen went 3-4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored
Paige Matsuki hit a homerun for two RBIs and scored a run
Rebekkah Keller went 2-4 with two runs scored
Rachael Laetsch went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored
Brieann Backes pitched a complete game earning the win and striking out five
STAT OF THE GAME
The Marauders recorded seven of their eleven runs in the sixth inning putting five out of their 12 hits on the game into play during the inning. A third of the Marauders hits on the game were for extra bases.
GAME 2 Minot State 12 UMary 0
The Marauders were unable to keep their hot streak going into game two, falling by a score of 12-0.
Rebekkah Keller led the way for UMary with a hit and a steal but it was not enough to over come the Beavers.
PIVOT POINT
A close game at the end of the first was pushed out of reach with Minot State recording five runs in the second inning.

STAT OF THE GAME
The Marauders who average nearly nine hits per game were held to just two hits in game two against Minot State.
ON DECK
The Marauders will host their first home game of the season on Saturday, March 30. UMary will play in a double header against Minnesota State with games at 2 PM and 4 PM at the Sanford Sports Complex.
