Nine Different Marauders Score As UMary Takes Down Upper Iowa 69-65

FAYETTE, IA – It was truly a team effort for the University of Mary women's basketball team tonight as nine different Marauders found the bottom of the net. The Marauders needed contribution from everyone as they narrowly beat Upper Iowa by a score of 69-65.
 
With the win the Marauders improve to 14-6 on the season and 12-5 in NSIC play. The Peacocks fall to 3-22 overall and 0-17 in the conference.
 
The Marauders got out to an uncharacteristically slow start only recording nine points in the first quarter. The team got back on track to start the second quarter posting as many points in the first two minutes of the quarter as they did in the entirety of the first quarter. UMary exploded for a 26 point second quarter to take a 35-26 lead heading into half.
 
The first half featured nine different Marauders putting up points. The even attack was led by Tonya Dvorak and Coral Gillette who eached put up six points in the half.
 
UMary only held the advantage in one quarter with the Peacocks holding the advantage for the other three. A 26 point second quarter, outscoring UIU by 11 was just what UMary needed to put the game just far enough out of reach.
 
The Peacocks made things interesting getting the game to within two points with just 21 seconds left. Macy Williams and Tonya Dvorak knocked down crucial free throws to clinch the 69-65 victory for UMary.
 
The Marauders clutch shooting from the charity stripe was a huge difference in the ball game. UMary shot a perfect 100 percent from the line knocking down all 16 of their attempts.
 
Macy Williams, Coral Gillette, and Jordyn Jossart made it rain from deep. The trio combined to make seven trey's and shot 54 percent from deep. As a whole team, UMary shot 43.8 percent from behind the arc.
 
Macy Williams recorded a game high of 16 points on 63 percent shooting from the field. The sophomore knocked down two three pointers and went 4-4 from the free throw line. Williams dished out four assists as well.
 
Coral Gillette knocked down four big three's on the game, shooting fifty percent from deep. She added three assists and a block to her stat line.
 
Gabbie Bohl had 12 points, six rebounds, and a block. She went 4-4 from the free throw line.
 
Tonya Dvorak also went 4-4 from the free throw line, recording eight points, five rebounds, four assists, a steal, and a block.
 
Cassie Askvig posted seven points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
 
The Marauders travel to Winona, MN tomorrow, February 9 to take on Winona State at 3:30 PM.
