UMary Falls 57-54 To Winona State In Low Scoring Affair

WINONA, MN – The University of Mary women's basketball team brought the game down to the wire against the Winona State Warriors but could not seal the deal on a victory. The Marauders put up their lowest point total of the season in the 54-57 loss to the Warriors.

With the loss the Marauders fall to 14-7 overall and 12-6 overall. Winona State improves to 13-9 overall and 11-7 in the conference.

UMary had a chance at the end, Rick Neumann drew up the perfect play that resulted in Coral Gillette getting a great look at a three to tie up the ball game. The shot just missed, failing to advance the game to overtime.

UMary started the game off hot, working their way up to a six point lead just seven minutes into the ball game. The Warriors fought back taking the lead for good at the 2:59 mark of the second quarter.

The Marauders made things close, getting the game to within one point several times but WSU refused to relinquish the lead.

The usual sure shooting Marauders struggled to find the bottom of the net from deep. UMary only made 14 percent of their three pointers on 3-21 shooting from behind the arc.

WSU held the advantage on the glass outrebounding the Marauders 36-22.

UMary outscored WSU 15-10 on points off of turnovers.

Seven different Marauders scored on the ball game with three of them recording double figures.

Gabbie Bohl led the way with 11 points, nine rebounds, one block, and one steal.

Macy Williams recorded ten points and four assists.

Lexie Schneider earned her first career collegiate start and posted 10 points and two steals. Schneider got the start in place of defending NSIC player of the week Cassie Askvig who missed the game due to an illness.

Two Warriors scored over 20 points. Allie Pickrain scored a game high with 22 points. Emily Kieck scored 21 points.

The Marauders will look to bounce back next weekend against two NSIC North foes. UMary will continue on their road trip and take on Bemidji State on Friday, February 15 at 5:30 PM. They will follow that up with a game at Minnesota Crookston on Saturday, January 16 at 3:30 PM.
