ALVA, OK – Five University of Mary women's basketball players posted double digit points in the Marauders balanced offensive attack in the first game of the GAC / MIAA / NSIC Challenge against Central Oklahoma. A late fourth quarter push by UMary was not enough to overcome the Broncos dominant first half performance, falling by a score of 80-72. A big double-double by
Lexie Schneider featured career highs in both points (14) and rebounds (13). Askvig led the way in scoring for the Marauders with 20 points with
Coral Gillette (11),
Megan Voit (11), and
Macy Williams (10) all posting double figures as well.
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders got off to an uncharacteristically slow shooting start, shooting 17 percent from deep in the first half and 27 percent from the field in the first half. A slow shooting start by the Marauders and a great start shooting by the Broncos, knocking down 67 percent of their shots from the field and 71 percent from deep in the first quarter put the Marauders in an early deficit. UCO outscored the Marauders 26-12 in the first quarter and 17-11 in the second to take a 20 point lead into half.
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders turned it up in the second half, specifically the fourth quarter where UMary outscored the Broncos by 11 to cut into the lead. The Marauders were able to bring the game within four in the fourth quarter with 23 seconds left but clutch free throw shooting by UCO helped clinch the victory for them.
