BISMARCK, ND – On a day where the University of Mary Women's Basketball teams big three all put up double digit points, the Marauders were unable to overcome a tremendous shooting performance by the visiting Bemidji State Beavers. The 77-66 loss was UMary's first loss in the McDowell Activity Center this season.
With the loss the Marauders fall to 11-6 overall and 9-5 in the NSIC. Bemidji State improves to 5-13 overall and 3-11 in the conference.
The Marauders only held the advantage in one quarter of play, that quarter was the second when the team outscore BSU 20-16. The big second quarter set UMary up to take their largest lead of the ball game of five points at the beginning of the second half.
Though UMary shot nearly 85 percent from the charity stripe, the Beavers attempting over 15 more free throws than the Marauders proved to be a difference in the ball game.
The usually clutch shooting Marauders struggled from deep only knocking down 29 percent of their three's.
The Marauders recorded 16 assists on the game out doing their opponents by five.
Though the Marauders held the size advantage, the Beavers dominated in the paint outscoring UMary 42-26 in the paint.
Gabbie Bohl posted 15 points and eight rebounds.
Cassie Askvig recorded 15 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
Macy Williams led the team with five assists. She added eleven points.
Coral Gillette led UMary with three steals.
The Marauders will be back in action at the McDowell Activity Center next weekend. UMary will host Wayne State on Friday, February 1 at 5:30 PM. They follow that up with a game on Saturday, February 2 at 3:30 PM against Augustana.
