BISMARCK, ND – Head Coach
Rick Neumann successfully guided the University of Mary Women's Basketball team to victory, earning his 100th career win! Five Marauders posted double digits on the night to lead UMary to an 82-71 victory over Minnesota Crookston.
With the win, UMary improved to 11-5 on the season and 9-4 in the NSIC. UMC falls to 10-9 overall and 5-8 in conference play.
Three pointers were the name of the game for the Marauders in the first half. UMary knocked down seven trey's which accounted for nearly half of the teams buckets in the first half. The first three scoring possessions for UMary all accounted for three points.
Coral Gillette got fouled shooting a three and knocked down all three attempts from the charity stripe. Gillette and
Macy Williams added three's on the next two scoring possessions. The Marauders knocked down nine shots from deep on the ball game.
A big 41 point first half gave UMary a 16 point lead at the half.
Minnesota Crookston attempted to make a couple runs in the second half but the Golden Eagles could only get as close as nine points before the Marauders put their foot on the gas and pulled away. UMary held their largest lead of 18 at the 5:29 mark of the fourth quarter.
The last lead that UMC held was when they were up 7-6 in the first quarter. UMary held the lead for the final 35 minutes of play.
UMary held the advantage in rebounds 35 to 26 and in assists 20 to 12.
The Marauders recorded a higher three point, free throw, and shooting percentage from the field than the Golden Eagles.
Five Marauder scored double figures with three of them scoring 19 points.
Gabbie Bohl posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. She added two blocks to her stat line. Bohl made 54 percent of her shots on the night.
Macy Williams scored 19 points, had eight assists, and five rebounds to lead UMary from the point guard position. The sophomore knocked down all three of her attempts from behind the arc and all six of her free throw attempts. .
Cassie Askvig posted 19 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. The Minot, ND native knocked down 50 percent of her shots from the field and 100 percent from the charity stripe.
Coral Gillette posted 12 points on the game including three, three pointers.
Kassandra Bartek provided a big spark off the bench scoring 10 points on two of four shooting from behind the arc and four of seven from the field. The 10 points are a career high for Bartek.
Jordyn Jossart posted four assists on the night.
The Marauders will look to continue to protect the home court Saturday, January 26 at 3:30 PM at the McDowell Activity Center against Bemidji State.
