ST. CLOUD, MN – For the second straight night two University of Mary women's basketball players put up over 20 points. Big games by Bohl and Askvig proved to not be enough against St. Cloud State. A big fourth quarter by the Huskies pushed them past the Marauders 83-71
With the loss, UMary falls to 9-4 on the season and 7-3 in NSIC play. SCSU improved to 10-4 overall and 7-3 in the conference.
In a game of many lead changes, the Marauders held their largest lead of seven at the 5:53 mark in the second quarter.
UMary held a one point lead heading into the fourth quarter but St. Cloud State put up 28 points and held the Marauders to 14 while going on a 19-6 run to close out the quarter to clinch the win.
Free throws proved to be the difference in the game. The Huskies made more free throws than the Marauders even attempted. UMary shot 11-13 from the charity stripe on the game while SCSU knocked down 26 of 36.
UMary would only get four points scored off of the bench. SCSU had their bench players score 31.
Gabbie Bohl added to her points per game average with another massive scoring performance. Bohl posted a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds. The junior knocked down ten of her eleven free throw attempts.
Cassie Askvig put up 22 points on the game to go along with her 2 blocks. Askvig knocked down four treys on the game to shoot 57 percent from deep.
Macy Williams did what point guards do and distributed the ball. The sophomore dished out eight assists to go with her 10 points.
Katrina Theis led the Huskies with a big double-double of 21 points and 17 rebounds.
The Marauders will look to bounce back next weekend against Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State. UMary will take on Sioux falls on Friday, January 18 at 5:30 PM. They will follow that up with a game against SMSU on Saturday, January 19 at 4 PM.
