UMary Women's Basketball Returns To Winning Ways Against Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Coral Gillette, Gabbie Bohl, and Cassie Askvig combined to score an impressive 57 of the University of Mary's 70 points on the night. Big games by the big three propelled the Marauders to a bounce back victory over the University of Sioux Falls by a score of 70-63

With the win the Marauders improve to 10-4 on the season and 8-3 in NSIC play. The Cougars fall to 11-6 overall and 6-5 in conference play.

Gillette provided a big spark for the Marauders knocking down three trey balls in the first five minutes of play. Big three pointers by Gillette gave UMary the lead early and they never looked back, holding the lead for all but the first 30 seconds of the game. The Marauders worked their way up to a 16 point lead in the third quarter for the largest lead of the ball game. 

Bohl and Gillette combined for 20 of the Marauders 28 points in the first half which gave UMary a 28-19 lead heading into the break.

The Marauders came out with the same intensity in the second half with Cassie Askvig joining the scoring party. Askvig put up 13 points in the second half to help push UMary to victory.

Sioux Falls attempted to make a comeback late in the fourth but 13-17 shooting from the charity stripe in the second half by UMary provided them the spark they needed to close out the game.

The Marauders owned the glass tonight pulling down 35 rebounds compared to 24 by the opponents. UMary distributed the ball very nicely, dishing out 15 assists compared to five by the Cougars.

Shooting efficiency was the name of the game tonight for the Marauders. UMary shot 50 percent from the field, 47 percent from behind the arc, and 71 percent from the free throw line. 

Gabbie Bohl packed the stat sheet tonight posting game highs in points, steals, blocks, and rebounds. The junior put up 22 points, 14 rebounds, two steals, and a block in the Marauders win.

13 second half points by Cassie Askvig led her to a 19 point, seven rebound, and a four assist ball game. The Minot, ND native bettered her nations third best three point shooting percentage going two for two from behind the arc on the night.  

The sharp shooting Coral Gillette knocked down four three pointers and 16 points on the night.

The Marauders will be back in action tomorrow, January 19 at 4 PM in Marshall, MN to take on Southwest Minnesota State. The game against the Mustangs will conclude the Marauders four game road stretch.
