Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Zach Durkee, UMary Sports Information

UMary Women's Basketball Falls To Minnesota Duluth 78-71

DULUTH, MN – 20 point performances by Williams and Bohl couldn't help propel the Marauders past Minnesota Duluth. In a battle of two of the conferences top three teams the Bulldogs held the advantage and took the win by a score of 78-71.

With the loss the Marauders fall to 9-3 on the season and 7-2 in the NSIC. UMD improves to 8-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play.

The Marauders jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start things off but UMD responded with a 19-2 run of their own. The big run by the Bulldogs proved too much to overcome for UMary. The Marauders put together several runs but only could get as close as three points.

UMary recorded a higher field goal percentage, posted more assists, and had more rebounds then the Bulldogs but 23 turnovers by the Marauders put a halt on the Marauders game plan.

Macy Williams single handedly kept the Marauders in the game in the first quarter. The sophomores hot hand continued throughout the remainder of game, recording 22 points on the game. The Sussex, WI native added two steals, two assists, and two rebounds on the game.

Gabbie Bohl was held silent for the first quarter, recording zero points and only getting off one shot. The junior bounced back big time in the final three quarters of play recording a game high of 26 points.

Cassie Askvig recorded a double-double for the fourth straight game. The Minot, ND native scored 11 points and had 10 rebounds. She added four assists on the game.

Coral Gillette and Tonya Dvorak each posted game highs of five assists. Dvorak scored a quick five points in the first quarter but was held quiet for the rest of the night. She added two steals to her stat line.

Sammy Kozlowski led the Bulldogs with 26 points and an impressive eight steals.

UMary will be back in action tomorrow against the St. Cloud State Huskies at 3:30 PM in St. Cloud, MN.
