Marauders Volleyball Opens Conference Play This Week

UP NEXT

The University of Mary volleyball team will open conference play with two matches this week. The Marauders takes on nationally-ranked Northern State University at 6 pm on Wednesday, September 5, in Aberdeen, SD. The Marauders host their home opener on Saturday, September 8, against MSU Moorhead at 6 pm in the McDowell Activity Center

THE RECORD

The Marauders come in with a record of 3-5, having lost their past four games.

LAST TIME OUT

The last time the Marauders took the court was at the Augie Invite. The Marauders struggled, dropping all four of their matches. They opened the tournament against Northern State University which they lost 3-0. The second match of the tournament was much more competitive with Black Hills State University but the thrilling match ended up favoring BHSU 3-2. The Marauders got on the board first in the third match of the tournament winning the first set against Fort Hays State University but after that it was all Tigers with them winning the match 3-1. Match four was against Lindenwood University which the Marauders dropped in three straight sets.

OPPO RESEARCH – NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY

Northern State University is a national powerhouse. The Wolves are currently ranked 7th in the nation and so far this season have been unrivaled. They come into the game versus the Marauders with a perfect 8-0 record, having swept seven of the eight matches in dominant fashion. Their most contested match was a 3-1 victory over #22 Augustana.

LAST MEETING

The last time the Marauders played the Wolves was this past weekend when the Marauders were swept by the Wolves in three straight sets

OPPO RESEARCH – MINNESOTA STATE UNIVERSITY MOORHEAD

The Dragons entering this week have a 4-3 record. They started their season with a three-game winning streak but have lost three of the last four games since, including a loss to the Marauders.

LAST MEETING

The last time the Marauders took on the Dragons was earlier this season at the MSU Moorhead Classic. Behind the stellar play of All-Tournament team member Sydney Murphy, the Marauders were able to beat the Dragons 3-1. Murphy recorded 41 assists in that match, which nearly doubled the amount of assists posted by MSUM.

"SETTING" UP FOR SUCCESS

Sydney Murphy continues to set the Marauders up for kill after kill. Murphy continues to improve and improve upping her impressive assist/set average to 8.97. She recorded a season high 62 assists against Black Hills State University.

"ACE" UP THE SLEEVE

The Marauders have 54 aces on the season which leads their opponents by 11. Sydney Murphy leads the team with 14 aces on the season, followed closely behind by Geovana Almeida who has 12.

NOT IN OUR HOUSE

Blocks is the name of the game for Madison Bergthold and Julianna Hughes. The Marauders lead their opponents 11-10 in solo blocks. Bergthold leads the team with 22 blocks with Hughes trailing closely behind with 16.  

DIG IT UP, OH, OH

Breanna Donarski broke the triple digit mark for digs on the season totaling 101. Sydney Murphy and Natalia Cruz both have added an additional 75 digs this year.

ATTACK AND KILL

Morgan Schnabel leads the Marauders with 87 kills this season, averaging 2.9 kills per set. In her game against Black Hills State University she set a season high of 23 kills. Julianna Hughes has been Miss Consistency for the Marauders posting a team high .260 kill percentage with three games above .300 and one above .400 this past weekend at the Augie invite.
