THIS WEEKEND
The University of Mary volleyball team will compete at the Augie Invite on Friday, August 31, and Saturday, September 1. The Marauders will take on conference foe Northern State University at 11:30 am on Friday, followed up by a game against Black Hills State University at 4:30 pm. On Saturday, the team will take on Fort Hays State University at 9 am and Lindenwood University at 4:30 pm.
THE RECORD
The Marauders come in with a record of 3-1, having won their past two games.
LAST TIME OUT
The last time the Marauders took the court was at the MSU Moorhead Classic. The Marauders dominated their first match against Western State Colorado University, winning in three straight sets. The second match was against Montana State University Billings. The Marauders came out hot, pulling out to a two-set lead but could not hold on, dropping the last three. The Marauders came out the second day of competition with vengeance, dominating the first match with a 3-0 sweep against the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. In the final match of the season the Marauders took on conference rival and tournament host MSU Moorhead in which the Marauders rallied and won the match 3-1.
OPPO RESEARCH – NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY
Northern State University is a national powerhouse and a conference foe. The Wolves are currently ranked 7th in the nation and so far this season have been unrivaled. They come into the game versus the Marauders with a perfect 4-0 record, having swept every match in dominant fashion.
LAST MEETING
The last time the Marauders played the Wolves was in the 2017 season when the Marauders were swept by the Wolves in three straight sets
OPPO RESEARCH – BLACK HILLS STATE UNIVERSITY
The Yellow Jackets entering this tournament have a 1-3 record. They have not had a single match go more than three sets, getting swept in their first three matches of the season and then sweeping their fourth match.
LAST MEETING
The last time the Marauders took on the Yellow Jackets was in 2016. The match was a tightly contested event going all five sets with each team alternating who won each set. The Yellow Jackets ended up beating the Marauders, taking the last set 15-12.
OPPO RESEARCH – FORT HAYS STATE UNIVERSITY
The Fort Hays State University Tigers have put on a dominant performance thus far, winning all four of their matches in dominant fashion. The Tigers swept three of those matches and won the fourth in four sets.
OPPO RESEARCH – LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY
The Lindenwood Lions have proven they are a force to be wrecking with early on in the season, beginning 4-0 in their season opening tournament which they hosted on their home court. The Lions swept three of their four matches and won the fourth in four sets.
"SETTING" UP FOR SUCCESS
Sydney Murphy was named to the MSU Moorhead Classic All-Tournament team due to her impressive amount of assists. Murphy averaged 8.73 assists per set and has raked in 131 total assists over the first four games.
"ACE" UP THE SLEEVE
The Marauders have aced a total of 36 serves, which is incredible, especially compared to the mere 20 aces that they have given up.
Sydney Murphy leads the team with 12 aces followed closely behind by
Geovana Almeida who has 11. The Marauders are averaging 2.4 aces per set.
NOT IN OUR HOUSE
Blocks is the name of the game for
Madison Bergthold, who averages nearly 1 block per set. Over the first four games Bergthold has recorded a total of 14 blocks, which makes Bergthold responsible for half of the team's blocks.
DIG IT UP, OH, OH
The defense was on point for the Marauders last weekend. Led by
Breanna Donarski, the Marauders recorded 233 digs throughout the first four games. Donarski had 62 digs over the first four games, averaging 4.13 digs per set.
Geovana Almeida added another 3.07 digs per set, for a total of 46 over the opening tournament.
ATTACK AND KILL
You could say the Marauders were killing it when it came to kills with four players averaging more than two kills per set.
Natalia Cruz lead the team with 2.8 kills per set.
Morgan Schnabel added another 2.6, while
Anna Nietfeld average 2.43 and
Katja Berge threw in 2.43.
Madison Bergthold lead the team in kill percentage with an impressive .237.
