Scott breaks up no-hit bid but Marauders can't find solution for Golden Bears pitching

MINNETONKA, MN – University of Mary junior outfielder Chris Scott broke up a no-hitter for Concordia-St. Paul hurler Gus Varland with one out remaining in game one of a Northern Sun doubleheader between the Marauders and the Golden Bears. He also had the only hit for UMary through the first four innings of game two as the Marauders bats were stifled by the Golden Bears pitchers in 6-0 and 7-0 losses.
 
Originally scheduled for Bismarck. ND, the doubleheader was moved to Minnetonka, MN, due to unplayable field conditions at the Marauders home park due to unseasonable weather conditions.

Behind the effort of Gus Varland, the Golden Bears scored all the runs they needed with a single tally in the second before piling on three more in the third.
 
PIVOT POINT
The Golden Bears scored the only run they needed on a two-out double by Mickey Leius in the second inning.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Seth Siverson reached base twice, walking to lead off the game and being struck by a pitch to lead off the fourth.
 
Chris Scott posted the Marauders lone hit in the game, a two-out single to break up a no-hit bid in the final inning of the game.
 
Alec DaMaria and Austin Ell both pitched scoreless innings of relief for the Marauders.
 
After Varland issued a leadoff walk to Seth Siverson, the Marauders didn't have another baserunner until Siverson was struck by a pitch to led off the fourth inning. At one point Varland retired 17 of 18 Marauders hitters.
 
Varland struck out ten, walked one, hit a batter and gave up one hit in a 7-inning complete game.
 
STAT OF THE GAME
The Marauders had just four baserunners in the game and reached scoring position just twice; Siverson was hit by a pitch and stole second in the fourth inning and Jaxon Ford, who reached on a CSP error in the seventh, moved to third on the Scott single.

Facing one of the NSIC's top pitchers for a second straight game, the Marauders managed just three hits covering nine innings.

PIVOT POINT
After scoring a solo run in the first inning, the Golden Bears added three runs in the second, once on a sacrifice fly, the second on a Connor Trygstad single and the third on a Marauders error.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
After breaking up the CSP no-hit bid with just one out remaining in the opening game, Chris Scott had the Marauders lone hit through the first four innings of game two.
 
Mason Huntley and Nick McCann had the two other UMary hits in the game.
 
Seth Siverson was hit by a pitch in both games and has been struck a team-high eight times this season.
 
Isaac Saad tossed two innings of scoreless relief, striking out one hitter.
 
Cody Ghents earned two walks in the game.
 
Will Karrer threw one inning of scoreless relief and Kenny Slominski posted 2/3s of an inning.
 
Zach Lauzon allowed two hits in seven innings for CSP. He struck out seven, walked five and hit one batter.
 
Trygstad and Leius both had three hits for the Golden Bears.
 
STAT OF THE GAME
The Marauders had at least one runner on base in every inning but the eighth but couldn't take advantage of the opportunities.
 
ON DECK
The Marauders will finally play a home game this weekend when UMary hosts Southwest Minnesota State University on Saturday, April 14. The doubleheader is scheduled for 1 pm at the Shiloh High School field. Sunday's games between the Marauders and the Mustangs are cancelled.
