SAINT PETER, MN – Despite a combined 13 hits for
Jesus Payan,
Connor Doll and
Jaxon Ford over three games for the University of Mary, the Marauders were forced to play from behind most of the day in three losses to Minnesota State University, including a game suspended from the day before. The preseason Northern Sun favorite, the Mavericks moved into third place in the conference standings with 6-2, 6-3 and 12-5 wins over the Marauders.
Originally scheduled as the Marauders home opener, the four-game set was moved to the Gustavus Adolphus College ballpark in Saint Peter, MN, due to cold weather and unplayable field conditions due to lingering cold weather.
GAME 1 (SUSPENDED FROM THURSDAY) Minnesota State 6 UMary 2
Suspended on Thursday with UMary trailing 3-1 after three innings, the Marauders were limited to three hits in a complete game by Minnesota State's Cam Kline, who walked two and struck out five.
PIVOT POINT
Down 2-0 entering the bottom of the first inning after a double, triple and a sacrifice fly by Minnesota State, the Marauders struck for a run in the bottom of the inning. Doll walked, stole second and moved to third on an infield hit by Ford before scoring on a Payan sacrifice fly. After
Will Pettener walked, Ford was thrown out attempting to steal third to end the inning. Kline retired the next 12 hitters as MSU built a 4-1 lead.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Ford was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.
Cody Ghents led off the sixth inning with a single and scored on a Ford single to center.
Ian Fisher pitched 1.1 scoreless innings for UMary, striking out two hitters.
Tom Imholte was 1-for-3 with a triple, a run scored and two RBIs for MSU.

Limited to three hits, the Marauders left just three runners on base.
GAME 2 Minnesota State 6 UMary 3
A 1-1 game through three innings, MSU scored four times in the fourth inning and UMary couldn't convert scoring opportunities in a 6-3 loss to the Mavericks.
PIVOT POINT
Despite six hits in the first three innings, the Marauders scored just once to leave the door open for the Mavericks. UMary had two hits in the first but couldn't score. In the third,
Seth Siverson led off with a double, took third on a wild pitch and scored when Ford, who walked, was caught in a rundown. Back-to-back singles by Payan and Pettener and an MSU error loaded the bases with two outs but a groundout left the game knotted 1-1.
Minnesota State took control in the top of the fourth, scoring four times to build a 5-1 lead. The big blow was a 3-run home run by Teddy Petersen.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Marauders out-hit the Mavericks 12-10.
Eight of nine Marauders had at least one hit in the game.
Payan finished 4-for-4, his third four-hit game of the season and second this week. The junior right fielder is hitting a team-high .430.
Connor Doll was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored.
Ford finished 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.
Petersen was 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs for MSU.
Trevor Divinski struck out ten and walked one in six innings for MSU. He allowed one run and nine hits.
Travis Stevens went six innings for UMary, allowing eight hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

GAME 3 Minnesota State 12 UMary 5
For the second straight game, the Mavericks used a 4-run second inning to break away from the Marauders before capping the game with five runs in the sixth.

The Mavericks scored four runs with two outs in the second inning, capped by a 2-run double by Josh Wenzel.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Marauders scored four of their five runs in the seventh inning.
Doll was 2-for-3 with a double. He was also hit by a pitch, scored a run and drove home two.
Mason Huntley doubled and drove in two runs.
Will Karrer pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless innings, striking out two hitters.
