UMary Women's Basketball downs St. Cloud State 59-47, Bohl posts big double-double

BISMARCK, ND – A massive 25 point fourth quarter by the University of Mary Women's basketball team sparked the Marauders to a double-digit win over the St. Cloud State Huskies. When the final buzzer sounded UMary won 59-47. 27 points, 19 rebounds and three blocks by NSIC preseason player of the year, Gabbie Bohl led the Marauders to a big conference win.

With the win the Marauders improve to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in NSIC play. The Huskies fall to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The win gives UMary three straight wins and a 3-0 record in the McDowell Activity Center.

The Huskies did not make things easy on UMary, in fact the Marauders never held a lead in the first half and trailed by as many as eight points. The Marauders trailed 27-22 at half. Bohl single handedly kept the Marauders in the game during the first half, scoring 12 of the teams 22 points and pulling down 9 of the teams 19 rebounds. The junior knocked down all six of her attempts from the charity stripe in the first half.

A big 10-0 run to start the second half gave the Marauders their first lead of the game. Sparked by big time buckets by Cassie Askvig and Gabbie Bohl the Marauders earned their way back into the game. At the end of the third the Marauders trailed 36-34.

UMary started the fourth quarter just like they started the third, on a big run. The Marauders put together a 14-3 run to take a nine point lead with just 44 seconds left. Big free throws down the stretch extended that lead to 12 and eventually earned UMary a 59-47 victory.

Cassie Askvig posted a near double-double on the game with 10 points and 9 rebounds. The junior added two steals to her well rounded game.

Freshman Tonya Dvorak added another two blocks to her impressive season total tonight. Dvorak is one of the conference leaders in blocks so far this season. She added a team high of four assists to her day.

The Marauders return to action tomorrow, December 8 against Minnesota Duluth. UMary will take on the Bulldogs at 3:30 PM in the McDowell Activity Center.
