Marauders Take Down Northern State 78-71

ABERDEEN, SD – The University of Mary Women's basketball team continued their first NSIC road trip of the season against Northern State. The Marauders bounced back and added another win to the win column against the Wolves. Thanks to a monstrous 28 point performance by Cassie Askvig, UMary downed the Wolves 78-71.

With the win the Marauders improve to 6-2 on the season and 4-1 in the NSIC. NSU falls to 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

The Marauders bench came through in a big way on the night putting up 30 points. The bench bounced back in a big way after recording zero points the previous night against MSUM.

The Wolves earned themselves a six point, 8-2 lead in the first quarter but that lead was the best they could do. The Marauders finished the first quarter on a 16-2 run to put themselves up six points going into the second quarter. The Marauders were led by a scoring outburst by Jordyn Jossart who recorded eight of her twelve points in the first quarter of play.

The second quarter was the Cassie Askvig show with the junior scoring the first 11 of 13 points of the quarter for the Marauders. The forward put up a total of 18 points in the first half to send the Marauders into the break with a 41-33 lead.

Askvig continued to lead the Marauders in the second half adding another ten points to her impressive total. Macy Williams added all nine of her points in the second half to help the Marauders clinch the seven point, 78-71 victory over the Wolves.

The Marauders held their largest lead of the game of 15 at the nine minute mark of the fourth quarter.

Askvig's 28 points tied her career high that she set earlier in the year against Western Washington. She also led the team with seven rebounds. The junior knocked down all eight of her free throw attempts and went 2-3 from behind the arc.

The Marauders shot just below 50 percent from behind the arc on the game knocking down 8-17 treys. Kassandra Bartek and Jordyn Jossart were both 2-2 from deep.
