Big Games by Bohl and Williams Can't Propel the Marauders Past the Dragons

MOORHEAD, MN – The University of Mary women's basketball team took on Minnesota State University Moorhead in a battle of undefeated teams in NSIC play. Three Marauders posted double figure points on the night but the Dragons bench players outscored the Marauders bench 18-0. Dominant bench performances by MSUM led the Dragons to a 76-68 victory over UMary.

With the loss the Marauders fall to 5-2 on the season and 3-1 in NSIC play. MSUM improves to 8-2 and 4-0 in the conference.

Gabbie Bohl showed exactly why she is the defending NSIC player of the week. The junior forward posted a big double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead the team in both categories.

The Marauders held their biggest lead of two at the six minute mark of the first quarter. Though UMary only held the lead for a brief time, the team kept themselves within striking distance for the duration of the game.

UMary knocked down four treys on the game compared to the dragons one. Coral Gillete knocked down a pair of three balls while Cassie Askvig and Macy Williams each knocked down one of their own.

The Marauders outshot the Dragons from deep but MSUM had the advantage inside the paint. UMary was outscored 38-26 inside.

Nineteen turnovers by the Marauders led to 24 points for the Dragons. UMary converted for eight points off of the Dragons nine turnovers.

UMary trailed by nine at half and did everything in their power to get momentum on their side and climb back into the game. The Marauders got the game within four points in the second half but could not overcome the Dragons and ended up dropping the game by eight points thanks to clutch free throws down the stretch.

Macy Williams had her biggest scoring game of the season. The sophomore dropped a season high of 21 points to go along with her season high of two steals.

Cassie Askvig added 13 points and four rebounds on the night.

The Marauders look to bounce back against Northern State tomorrow at 3:30 PM in Aberdeen, SD.
