BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary women's basketball team welcomed the Concordia College Cobbers to town tonight for the Marauders final exhibition match of the season. Big games by Gabbie Bohl and Cassie Askvig led UMary to a 64-27 victory.
The Marauders took over right away in the first quarter jumping out to 5-0 lead. UMary would hold a 14-7 lead at the end of quarter one, thanks to seven points by Cassie Askvig.
Askvig continued to lead the Marauders into quarter two, putting up a high of five points in the quarter. The Marauders dominated the second quarter putting up 17 points compared to the Cobbers 6. Despite the Cobbers holding NSIC preseason player of the year Gabbie Bohl to three first half points, UMary still entered halftime with a dominant 31-13 lead.
The Cobbers would not be able to hold Bohl down for long. The junior came out on fire in the third quarter putting up 16 of the Marauders 19 points. UMary outscored Concordia College 19-3 in the quarter to take a commanding 50-16 lead.
The Marauders closed out the game just like they started it, dominating. Askvig started out the fourth quarter with points on back to back possessions. The Marauders put up 14 points in the final quarter to take a 64-27 victory in front of the home crowd.
UMary used their size to their advantage, dominating the game in the paint. The Marauders outscored the Cobbers 34-7 in the paint.
The Marauders dominated on the defensive side of the ball, scoring 30 points off of turnovers. They only allowed the Cobbers to score seven points off of turnovers.
Bohl dominated the game posting a double-double. She recorded 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Marauders in both categories. Bohl would give the Marauders several second chances, recording an outstanding seven offensive rebounds.
Askvig put up 16 points on the game to go along with her game high of two blocks.
Macy Williams recorded a game high of four assists and three steals.
Coral Gillette tied Williams for a game high with three steals.
The Marauders will kick off regular season play on Wednesday, November 14 at 6 PM against Yellowstone Christian College in the McDowell Activity Center.
