ST. CLOUD, MN – The University of Mary volleyball team took off to St. Cloud, Minnesota to battle the St. Cloud State Huskies in the final match of the season. The Marauders came into the match determined to end their season on a winning note but the Huskies had other plans, downing the Marauders in three sets (25-12, 25-22, 25-15).
With the loss, UMary concludes their season with a 4-24 overall record while going 1-19 in conference play.
The Huskies started the match on a 6-1 run followed almost immediately by a 10-2 run to put SCSU up by a score of 17-5. The Marauders strung together a 6-2 run late in the set in the attempt to make a comeback but SCSU put a halt to that and take the first set by a score of 25-15.
The second set was a thriller with the two teams exchanging the lead over and over again. The Marauders held a 19-18 lead late in the set but a 4-0 run by the Huskies would give them a lead that the Marauders could not overcome. The Huskies took the second set by a score of 25-22.
UMary came out in the third set determined to take a set against the Huskies. The Marauders only trailed by a score of 11-9 midway through the set but an 11-3 run by SCSU put the match out of reach for the University of Mary. The Huskies won the set by a score of 25-15 to sweep the Marauders.
Morgan Schnabel posted an impressive .226 hitting percentage to go along with her team leading nine kills on the day.
Madison Bergthold set a game high with four blocks.
Sydney Murphy led the team with 11 assists.
In her final match as a Marauder, the lone senior
Geovana Almeida would record a team high of 15 digs.
The Marauders will return 15 of their 16 athletes for the 2019 season including the team leaders in kills, blocks, assists, digs and aces.
