Marauders Women's Basketball Downs Saint Martin's, Bohl Named to All-Tournament Team

BELLINGHAM, WA – The University of Mary women's basketball team bounced back in a big way against Saint Martin's University to close out tournament play at the Western Washington Lynda Goodrich Classic. Led by the trio of Bohl, Askvig, and Gillette the Marauders downed the Saints by a score of 62-47.

With the win, UMary improves to 2-1 on the season.

The Marauders came out looking for vengeance after suffering a heartbreaking loss to Western Washington. The team jumped out to an early 7-0 lead off of a pair of buckets by Bohl and a three ball by Gillette. The Marauders never looked back from there, refusing to give up the lead for the remainder of the game. UMary would end the first quarter with a 20-11 lead.

The second quarter was a very low scoring affair with only 11 total points being scored between the two teams. Gabbie Bohl scored all seven of the Marauders points in the quarter to give UMary a 27-15 lead going into half.

A big outburst by the Saints made things interesting to start the second half. SMU brought the game to within two points at one point and seemed poised to make the game a competitive one.

A 21-3 run by the Marauders in the fourth quarter put a damper on any hopes that the Saints had to keep things competitive. UMary would find themselves up 18 points with just over a minute and a half left in play. The Marauders stout defense took care of the rest and sealed the deal on a 62-47 victory.

Gabbie Bohl posted a game high of 23 points and 13 rebounds to give herself a double-double. The junior was named to the All-Tournament team for her impressive performance over the two games.

Coral Gillette continued to find the bottom of the net. The sophomore knocked down four treys on the game. She also shot 100 percent from the line.

Cassie Askvig continued to be incredibly consistent for the Marauders putting up impressive stats in nearly every category. The junior led the Marauders in both assists (4) and blocks (3). She added 11 points and 9 rebounds to her stat line as well.

UMary proved to be a very well rounded team against SMU, scoring more points in the paint and knocking down five more three pointers then the saints.

The Marauders were clutch from the charity stripe on the night, shooting 83 percent (15-18).

UMary will return home on Saturday, December 1 at 3:30 PM to host in-state rival Minot State in a big rivalry game.
