UMary volleyball falls 3-0 at Minot State

Minot, ND – The University of Mary volleyball team traveled up the road to Minot, ND, to take on in-state rivals, Minot State University. The Marauders played hard, recorded more blocks and aces than the Beavers, but it wasn't enough to take the home team down. The Beavers swept the Marauders in three straight sets (25-21, 25-14, 25-23).

The first set was a game of runs, with the Beavers pulling away early and then the Marauders fighting back. This happened over and over, until the set was 19-18 in favor of the Beavers. MSU then went on a 5-0 run to put the set out of reach for UMary in the 25-21 set decision.

The second set was all Minot State from the start. The Beavers pulled away early, going on a 7-0 run to put the them up 10-2. The Marauders were able to keep it even, exchanging points with the Beavers until MSU went on a 6-0 run to clinch the second set 25-14.

The third set was a thriller with the teams exchanging leads early. The Marauders managed to pull away a little, holding the biggest lead of the set at six points. The Beavers whittled away at the Marauders lead but UMary held a 22-21 lead late in the set. A 3-0 run by the Beavers clinched the set and the match for Minot State at 25-23.

The Marauders posted an impressive .243 hitting percentage as a team during the third set.

Freshman Bailey Harms continues to take full advantage of her playing time, recording a game-high four blocks to go along with her six kills. Harms posted an incredible .417 hitting percentage during the match.

Natalia Cruz lead the Marauders in both kills and digs tonight with a double double. The sophomore recorded 11 kills and 12 digs during the match.

Sydney Murphy and Brittany Brusven split action as setter for the Marauders. Murphy led the team with 14 assists while Brusven was close behind, recording 13. Murphy had a game-high two aces.

With the loss the Marauders fall to 3-17 overall and 0-12 in conference play. Minot State is 10-11 and 4-8.

The Marauders return home for homecoming week on Friday and Saturday. They host the University of Sioux Falls on breast cancer awareness night with a pink out Friday, October 12 at 6 pm. They will follow that match up on Saturday, October 13, at 11 am against #11 Southwest Minnesota State on Alumni Day.
